Niece had surgery tonight

and as I was getting ready to leave the hospital and they went on lockdown. Seems someone went crazy with a gun. Nurse said bowling alley but I have no idea. Why do people feel the need to solve their problems with guns? I just want to go home.

Finally got home but I live a block away from where it's happening. She had a ruptured ovarian cyst and they had to operate. The hospital is still on lockdown but we were able to leave. All we can see is sheriff and police cars parked with no one in them. My guess is they are on foot.

What we did get from the hospital staff was there was a shooting in the next town over from us and the shooters car is in the bowling alley parking lot.

Bowling alleys and hospitals are a deadly combination, and they must be stopped.

8. My wife had a home invasion last night.
She does not have the luxary of armed guards or a lock down. One look at the business end of the Mossberg and the two perps beat feat out as fast as they came in. How she handled it with nerves of steel I'll never know. And she doesen't even have a CCW.

or a suicide bomber.

A crazy with a gun is easier to deal with. Any armed guard could deal with the situation. A CCW in the room is a force multiplier triple A+ bonus.

Several years ago at the South Buffalo Mercy Hospital, DOCTORS were getting CCW's because of a high rate of druggies attacking them in the parking ramp and in the parking lots (looking for drugs.) Go figure.

http://www.seattlepi.com/news/article/Police-UI-professor-suspected-in-fatal-shooting-2136927.php

Ex-UI prof suspected in fatal shooting found dead

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Police say a former University of Idaho faculty member suspected in the Monday shooting death of a 22-year-old graduate student has been found dead at Moscow hotel.

Moscow Police Lt. Dave Lehmitz says 31-year-old Ernesto A. Bustamante was found dead early Tuesday at the University Inn Best Western. Police say Bustamante appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A warrant was issued for Bustamante's arrest Tuesday after police found a woman dead at a Moscow home late Monday. The female victim has not yet been identified.

Yes, people very commonly commit homicide followed by suicide with 5 gallons of gas and a match.

And since A CCW in the room is a force multiplier triple A+ bonus, well, what was that woman doing being alone with her (former) intimate partner without having a CCW in the room, or at least a gun of her own aimed at him at all times? Fool woman.

(Yes, I'm assuming that the two people were (former) intimate partners. That's who most commonly kills women, so odds are. We shall see.)

23. well, let's see
Here's what the OP actually said:

I was getting ready to leave the hospital and they went on lockdown. Seems someone went crazy with a gun. Nurse said bowling alley but I have no idea.

Nothing about an idiot at the hospital.

I took a cue from another post and searched for university idaho professor at google-news, and found what I found.

So now I've found a report (they are all very terse so far) that gives the address where the murder victim was found. It looks to be about a half mile from a university medical centre.

The murderer's body was found at the University Inn Best Western Hotel. It's in the other direction from the address where the murder occurred. Police used tear gas before executing their search warrant at about 7:45 a.m.

So who knows? Could be an entirely unrelated incident, or there could have been intervening events, or once the news of a killer on the loose was received a medical centre might just lock down automatically.

I didn't invent the connection between this incident and the thread, just assumed that someone else had a basis for making it.

27. Thanks rl
It's in Moscow, Id. Here is the latest, "At 5:50 a.m., a sniper from an unidentified agency began shooting at Bustamante's second-story window as a crew of law enforcement personnel had ceased its attempt to negotiate the alleged shooter out of his room. The gunshots to the window were followed by a Latah County Sheriff’s deputy in full SWAT gear shooting tear gas through the window, which appeared to have been blocked with a box-spring mattress. Tear gas was shot through the window again around 6:45 a.m. Around 7:30 a.m., law enforcement began breaking down the window with a hook device with a camera attached to it. Moscow Police Lt. Paul Kwiatkowski then attempted to gain access to the room through the window using a ladder as law enforcement simultaneously entered the room through the front door." http://www.dnews.com/breaking-news/1790/

They put the hospital on a lockdown because his car was supposedly spotted in the bowling alley across the street in Pullman. That was while I was in the hospital and a police officer came in and told them to lock all of the doors to the facility.

21. Most (not all) violent crime is committed by hardened, repeat thugs...
Fortunately, these thugs are being sentenced for longer sentences with requirements that they serve out better than 3/4 of the sentence. Keeps 'em off the street, and brings the violent crime rate down.

"Why?" Depends. A lot of it is the need to prove their bona fides within a criminal culture; some use guns, others use knives.

36. had seen the references in early reports
to him being a "former" professor, but his university info, e.g. his entry in the faculty biographical notes, is still cached by google, so he wasn't too very former. Then it seemed he had resigned quite recently.

I would surmise a breach of ethics in engaging in the relationship with the grad student, followed by harassment of her, followed by resign or be fired.

It's "just" one more in hundreds such situations that happen ever year in the US, most of which don't go public that way. Women killed by men who want to control them.

Finally got that video to load and still listening ...

... Oh right, resigned August 19. Kind of all came to a head, it seems. And that's when women are in most danger from intimate partners: when they end the relationship.

on rate my professor were interesting also.

“No doubt, bustamante is HOT. Also walking the line between genius and insanity. He’s totally nuts but knows his sh*t. He is easily distracted and can drone on about one subject forever. When I took the class it was pretty easy and I learned a lot but I’ve heard it’s sometimes really hard depending on his mood.I’d recommend it-his TA’s were cute too.” http://arbiteronline.com/2011/08/23/university-of-idaho-assistant-professor-found-dead-after-suspect-murder-of-student/

That was supposed to be a photo from the cached page, but it doesn't work now ... but surely it was John Travolta ... Here we are:

http://www.ktvb.com/home/ISP-searching-for-suspect-after-shooting-near-UI-campus-128240443.html

MOSCOW -- The woman shot and killed in Moscow Monday night is confirmed to be 22-year-old Katy Benoit, a University of Idaho psychology graduate student.

... At least two people who were in the area of the shooting Monday night said they first thought they were hearing fireworks. They later realized they heard the gunshots.

"My fiance' and I thought that they were fireworks," described a neighbor. "It wasn't an automated sound, and it didn't have a loud resonating noise like a gun would normally have. I can confirm there were about 11 to 12 shots fired."

... Jane Gordon, a law student at UI, said students received e-mail and text alerts this morning that warned them not to drive near the University Inn-Best Western because police were executing a search warrant. She said campus never closed down, and students at UI are talking about the shooting today.

One of those eerie things:

People who kill and then kill themselves / are killed, and then live on in the cyberworld.
