Iran, nukes and Israel - part II
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercurynews/news/breaking_news/13825858.htm

PHOENIX - The Saudi Arabian ambassador to the United States on Wednesday denounced Iran's uranium enrichment program and what he called inconsistent U.S. policy toward countries that are seeking or already have nuclear weapons.

Although Iranian officials have said they want to make fuel through enrichment, the activity can also generate the nuclear core of warheads.

Iran's persistence with the enrichment program is only increasing tensions in the Middle East, ambassador Turki Al-Faisal said during a speech here.
------------------------------------

OK, maybe I am being naive here. But... Israel got itself into this mess by introducing nukes into the region, didn't it?. Can't it deal with it the way we did with the Soviets (and still do with Russia)? Why does it need us to hold its hand? Let them sit down with the Iranians and work out verifiable arms-control measures.

I'd be in favor of backing up Israel's nuclear deterrent by pledging the use of our own, if necessary (the same deal we have with NATO countries). But launching a preemptive war yet again? I say no, unless we get solid, undeniable evidence that Iran is planning a military strike on another country.

1. How did Israel 'bring this on itself?'
Introducing nukes to region does not excuse Iran's attempts to gain nuclear weapons. If Iran is seriously only considering energy issues, then they should shut up their president a few other boobs who are banging the war drums. Also, in the past 60 years, only one country has been invaded multiple times, and been the center of a number of wars, and that is Israel. I am not at all surprised if they did develop nukes, and it was probably a mitigating factor for their not being a member of the NPT.

Anytime something goes wrong in the region (sometimes the world), it is almost always laid at the feet of Israel.

9-11: Israel knew. It's citizens/Jews called in sick to the towers. Jews/Israelis (depending on reports) jumped with joy in NJ as they filmed the attacks.

London bombing: Israel knew and protected its diplomats at the expense of British citizens.

Madrid bombing: Israeli/Mossad operation made to implicate Al-Queda.

Invasion and occupation of Iraq: Done to protect Israel/done at her behest.

Danish cartoons: Zionist conspiracy. No Israeli papers published it (to my knowledge), yet Israeli flags were burning all over the place.

Tsunami in Indonesia: Israeli nuclear testing.

Creation of Israel, by UN mandate: Invaded by 5 Arab nations determined to "push the Jews into the sea."

There is a saying: paranoid people have real enemies too!

3. Well...
I never made any of those other claims about Israel and would not. But it is true that Israel introduced nukes into the region. They had to realize that they were starting an arms race.

I am totally fine with the U.S. treating Israel as it does its other allies. An attack on Israel should be treated as an attack on the U.S. But we never launched a preemptive war against the Soviets to protect Western Europe. I am not sure we need to launch another preemptive war in the Middle East, either.

Not strictly true. Nuclear armed US, Russian, French, and British ships patrolled the Med before Israel went nuclear, and there are references in the contemporary military literature (Naval Institute Proceedings, Naval War College Review) to the Mediterranean as a "Nuclear Lake."

4. ***SIGN MY PETITION: NO WAR WITH IRAN!****
Hello,

For the past year, the growing tensions mounting between the US, Israel, and Iran are reaching a point where military action against Iran is w/in months of becoming reality. The repercussions are terrifying as such military action could involve countries such as China and Russia as they share massive energy/economic interests w/ Iran. The most likely scenario we would face would be the collapse of the US economy as the combination of a massive rise in oil prices and a run on the US dollar would surely be the weapon many countries would use to fight back against a preemptive US or Israeli strike.

For a collection of articles and resources on this subject you can visit this link: http://reseaudesign.com/research/iran/iran_summery.html

I'm starting up a petition which I will be sending out to as many members of Congress as possible. I'm asking for help to get this signed by as many people, possible in the next month. Send it to as many people you can.

Thanks for your time
