Israel PM aide suspended in corruption probe

JERUSALEM (AFP) - Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's personal secretary, Shula Zaken, has been suspended for six months in connection with a corruption probe, the state prosecutor said.

"The investigation into the tax authority affair is at an advanced stage, and existing evidence has led to the suspension of several people, including Mrs Zaken, who was suspended for six months," Eran Shendar told Channel Two television.

Last month, Zaken was placed under house arrest for 10 days following questioning over corruption suspicions.

Several other high-ranking officials in the government's tax authorities, including Zaken's brother, Yoram Karshi, were also detained on suspicion of involvement in one of the latest graft scandals to rock the country in recent months.
