Trio held over Valentine's Day flowers protest
<snip>

"THREE people were arrested after a weekend of protests outside a Hayes warehouse against the selling of Valentine's Day flowers from Palestine.

The Boycott Israeli Goods campaign staged two protests at the Swallowfield Way site to disrupt Carmel Agrexco's business.

The protestors claimed victory this week saying they stopped all lorries carrying the flowers from getting into the site."

<snip>

"The campaign group, who were joined by War on Want and Jews for Boycotting, are protesting against the export of goods from occupied areas of Palestine while native farmers suffer trade restrictions at the hands of the Israeli forces.

He said Carmel Agrexco imports flower from illegally occupied areas like Gaza and the West Bank where Palestinians regularly have their trade routes shut off by the Israeli army.

"Our aims were to disrupt their busy weekend which we did and the other was to show solidarity with the people of Palestine," he said."

2. If those folks want to boycott and bring attention
to the fact that the flowers are grown in the OT, more power to them, but someone, either the paper or the activist got one thing wrong: I seriously doubt that Israelis are growing flowers in Gaza.

4. actually....
most of the flowers were grown in gazas greenhouses.....some in the jordan valley (dont know the numbers) and the rest from israel pre67....sad fact is that the greenhouses in gaza had an established market of millions of dollars and 4,000+ jobs.....

5. I have friends in South Africa who tell me that they are the ones repsonsible for improving the
economy and bringing in jobs to the "blacks" in an effort to justify what they have done to the indigenous population. It doesn't make it any less disgusting.

3. Shades of the South Africa protests....
it was people-power, not politicians initiative, that changed US policy toward the racist South African regime. People working for a just Mideast policy will make the difference.

6. Why are exports from the occupied territories labelled "made is Israel"?
