Olmert, Bush agree to shun Palestinian govt -Israel
<snip>

"U.S. President George W. Bush and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert have agreed to jointly shun a Palestinian unity government unless it meets international conditions, Olmert's office said on Saturday.

An official in Olmert's office told Reuters that the agreement was reached in a telephone conversation on Friday between the two leaders.

"We won't recognise a unity government that doesn't explicitly accept the conditions. This is the joint U.S.-Israeli position," the official said, confirming Israeli television reports.

U.S. officials had no immediate comment.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah reached a power-sharing deal with Hamas leaders to form a unity government in talks in Mecca earlier this month.

The unity government agreement makes no explicit commitment to recognise Israel or renounce violence, as demanded by Israel and the so-called Quartet of Middle East mediators."

1. Two of the biggest criminal bastards on the planet today. And the big lie
here that that the rest of the world DOESN'T agree with the stand that the US and Israel are taking in regard to the Palestinians.

Two governments led by war criminals. How much credibility do they really believe they have?

8. So what else is new...?
When has the U.S. under Bush done anything other than shun the Palestinian government?

For that matter, according to official U.S. policy, it isn't even a "government," since a government requires a sovereign state to govern. What the Palestinians have, according to the U.S.'s position, is merely an elected "authority" to provide civil administration to "disputed territories." That's been the status quo ever since Oslo, and I see no signs of that changing any time soon. :shrug:

9. It's evil, pure and simple.
It's amazing to me that no Palestinians have retaliated against this country. We sure have been instrumental in their decades long screwing-over.

..."Senior Palestinian officials said Abbas replied angrily to a warning by a senior U.S. official on Saturday that Washington would unity government ministers, including Fatah members, if the Quartet’s terms were not met.

“President Abbas ... shouted, saying: ‘You are placing pressure on me. I have internal pressure -- the pressure is unbearable. The only alternative to this agreement is civil war,’” one Palestinian official said."

Does anyone out there really still think that Israel and the US are actually interested in a peaceful solution? Anyone buying that?
