'We're supplying electricity to Gaza under Qassam fire'
The Israeli Electric Company (IEC) is supplying nearly 70% of electricity to the Gaza Strip despite Palestinians' claims of a power shortage in Gaza, said Miko Zarfati, the chairman of the workers' committee at the power company.

"This is Palestinian spin. No one has stopped the supply of electricity to the Strip," Zarfati told Ynet. He claimed that his employees worked day and night in a power plant in Ashkelon while putting themselves in danger of being hit by Qassam rockets falling in the area.

The Gaza power plant only produces 30% of the electricity consumed in the Strip while Israel supplies the rest.

"It is simply offensive and arrogant for them to claim that there is shortage," Zarfati said.

The IEC employee was upset that Israel continues to supply electricity to Gaza while the Qassam rockets continue to land in the western Negev.

"The situation is totally absurd. We're continuing to supply them electricity despite the (demand) overload for electricity in Israel and despite the fact that Israeli residents and Electric Company workers that are being sent to Gaza Vicinity communities are under threat from Qassam rockets," Zarfati railed.

1. I guess if the Palestinian lies were not so . .
. . eagerly lapped up and embellished by "some" westerners who have this strange obsession regarding the demonic nature of the Jewish residents of Israel - maybe they'd be a little more creative. But why bother? As the France 2 anchorman who started the al Dura hoax, Charles Enderlin says - it fits the image of what the world already knows about Israel, so accuracy is irrelevant. Yeah, the image so eagerly painted with the lies that assholes like Enderlin spread.

There will be a reckoning on all this some day and those in the west who have enabled this destructive and deadly narrative so full of outrageous lies - will be held to account. I just hope it comes before too many more lives are lost.

That just needed to be brought out!

If the Palestinians built a power plant Israel would bomb it. The Palestinians are not allowed to be self-sufficient.

4. If you'll examine the recent history
Israel did bomb the Gazan power plant ... and it was rebuilt. If Hamas wanted peace, it would happen tomorrow.

3. the west enables this by arming Israel to the teeth, and Israel doesn't
help by treating Palestinians like dogs, or continually stealing their land.

There will be a reckoning, all right, but it may not fall the way you think.

5. That accusation is offensive. Palestinians can be citizens of the
Israeli state, vote and be represented in the Knesset. Unless we start w/realistic ideas of each other, nothing positive can be accomplished.

7. This is not a black and white situation
Both sides could do a lot to improve the situation.

It doesn't seem like the Hamas leadership is subjected to the sort of vitrol that they deserve on this and other progressive sites.
