Arab leader denies temple ever existed
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 01:19 PM by Looking4Light
The al-Aqsa mosque was never the site of a Jewish temple, Sheikh Raed Salah, the head of the Islamic Movement's northern branch, said Monday during a press conference he convened in Jerusalem to respond to voices calling for the expulsion of Israeli residents of the city who participate in terror activities against Israel.

He went on to deny any Israeli or Jewish historical claim to the city, denying that there ever existed a Jewish temple on the Temple Mount.

Salah's speech also attacked Jews, saying, "They want to build their temple at a time when our blood is on their clothes, on their doorsteps, in their food and in their drinks. Our blood has passed from one 'general terrorist' to another 'general terrorist.'"

He also said, "We are not those who ate bread dipped in children's blood."

1. Muslim and Arab Academic Scholars gave us algebra and the scientific method.
That's what happens when religious fundamentalists take over academic scholarship, science and exploration. We can already see a dark age being advocated by the Roman Catholic Church and Biblical Fundamentalists who wish to censure, limit and forbid, academic scholarship, science and exploration for the advancement of human life and society.

"George Sarton wrote in the Introduction to the History of Science:

"The main, as well as the least obvious, achievement of the Middle Ages was the creation of the experimental spirit and this was primarily due to the Muslims down to the 12th century."<36>

Oliver Joseph Lodge wrote in the Pioneers of Science:

"The only effective link between the old and the new science is afforded by the Arabs. The dark ages come as an utter gap in the scientific history of Europe, and for more than a thousand years there was not a scientific man of note except in Arabia."

("Islamic Science" Wikipedia)

6. Recently a Jewish leader blamed homosexuality for something absurd.
Sometimes religious people say stupid stuff.

Have no wacky religious leaders denied the relevance of the Haram al-Sharif to Islam?

There are "haters" here Pelsar, who will seize upon any opportunity to portray Islam in a negative light.

That's my point.

7. Pointing out that a religious leader is still using the anti-semitic canard of blood libel
is "seizing upon any opportunity to portray Islam in a negative light"?

9. how about
instead of bashing your fellow DUers you condemn this nut who made the comments?

This guy calls himself a religious leader? He is a screw ball, just like pat robertson who said katrina was gods vengance for homosexuality in the US, the rabbi recently who said israel brought the attacks upon herself.

10. My point exactly. We cannot allow this country to fall into the hands of narrow minded religious
leaders who think they speak for God and know the mind of God. Again, we will fall into the most evil and cruelest of dark ages. The knowledge we have gained in the sciences will be lost and it will take millenia before we recover the lost knowledge as happened in Europe during their dark ages.

15. This 'fellow DUer' has been here for all of five minutes, and is happily bashing folk like me...
Edited on Tue Mar-11-08 07:08 AM by Violet_Crumble
Given this 'fellow DUers' lavish praise in another thread of a woman who states herself that her fight is with Islam, not with extremists, but with the entire religion, and that Muslims have to change or be crushed, I can totally understand why the posting of this article by this poster does come across as a bit whiffy. And if yr in any doubt as to the motivations for posting this article, here's a link to a post in another thread where the poster uses this article as some sort of argument that it's representative of Israeli-Arabs...

For the record, though I'm sure it'll be totally ignored by some 'supporters' of Israel here, I think the comments made were disgusting, and there's no shortage of hatred and bigotry aimed at both Jews and Arabs from nasty religious zealots, both Islamic and Jewish....

11. of course they're are haters....
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 11:29 PM by pelsar
and people who say stuiped things....the trouble is, people believe them......be it the homosexuals are the cause for the earthquakes or that the jews have no history in jerusalem.

if they're "nobodies" its fine,...but when the guy is a major politician?......headline time.

Denying a peoples culture in the middle of low level war is not conducive to anything good.
Denying part of a society as being the reason for earth wide catastrophies is not good either....

but both get headlines...even if it makes Judaism, islam, religion look bad or absurd
