Army allows gay Palestinian to reunite with Israeli lover
Young Jenin man seeking to move to Israel to live with Tel Avivian partner granted special permit by IDF after claiming his life at risk in PA

By NIR GONTAJ, YNET News.com

A 33 year-old gay Palestinian man from Jenin has recently been granted a temporary residency permit in Israel by the IDF, in order to allow him to reunite with his Israeli partner who lives in Tel Aviv.

The permit was issued by Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Maj.-Gen. Yosef Mishlav.

Several years ago, the Palestinian has filed a request with the Israeli Interior Ministry to receive residency status in Israel that would enable him to live with his lover for the past eight years, a computer engineer in his forties.

After he realized that obtaining the permit may take several years, the young man decided to seek the help of the IDF representative in the territories. In a letter to Mishlav he noted that ever since his family learned of his gay relationship with an Israeli man, he has been facing an ongoing threat to his life.

1. I'm glad they gave him the permit!
He must have been in quite a lot of danger of violence at home, both for being gay, and for having an Israeli lover whatever the gender.

Wishing the two all the best! In a way, this is a moving example of how love can conquer boundaries.

3. I don't know.

If anything, it proves what a bigot Neve Gordon is, despite his call for a gay Palestinian to be allowed into Israel.

On edit: It doesn't seem to be the same man. The time frame doesn't fit, unless the writing of the current article is incorrect (always a possibility).

4. a small glimmer of hope
yup, I don't think so, the article says his partner is in the plumbing business...
also it said he was from Ramallah...so I guess not--I wonder what ever happened to him?

still it's nice to see some humanity shown for at least one human being

5. One can always hope.
I saw your post and looked at the facts in the article. Occupations and locations change, but it was the dates, those don't change. It would have been very nice had this been the same person. In the article you provided, the relationship started in 1995, in the article I posted, the relationship started in 2000, at least what I could surmise (check the articles again, and see if you come to the same conclusion).

I hope they both find happiness, love, and peace...TOGETHER!

6. happiness and peace indeed
I was going to recommend your thread but found out that one can't recommend threads in the I/P forum!

I guess there are lots of fences everywhere, hmmm.

--as an aside, I just sent an email to Neve Gordon to ask him if he knows:

"whatever happened to Fuad Moussa?"

9. I suppose being hung is better
than anything Israel does.

The Arab nations are especially kind to their gay people.

12. I was thinking
the same thing. Why throw a cloud over a happy event?
It's nice to have some good news once in a while for both sides, why spoil it?

13. You are pathetic for painting Israel as the great humanitarian
when countless separated families have waited years for their lem shemels.

What a joke.

14. I did no such thing.
But your true colors have shone thru. NOTHING Israel does is good. You will ALWAYS find SOMETHING bad. The only "joke" here is your hate-filled responses.
