New alternative to AIPAC?
Edited on Fri Dec-05-08 04:42 PM by Double_Talk_Express
http://jstreet.org/homepage

"J Street is the political arm of the pro-Israel, pro-peace movement.

J Street was founded to promote meaningful American leadership to end the Arab-Israeli and Palestinian-Israel conflicts peacefully and diplomatically. We support a new direction for American policy in the Middle East and a broad public and policy debate about the U.S. role in the region.

J Street represents Americans, primarily but not exclusively Jewish, who support Israel and its desire for security as the Jewish homeland, as well as the right of the Palestinians to a sovereign state of their own - two states living side-by-side in peace and security. We believe ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is in the best interests of Israel, the United States, the Palestinians, and the region as a whole.

J Street supports diplomatic solutions over military ones, including in Iran; multilateral over unilateral approaches to conflict resolution; and dialogue over confrontation with a wide range of countries and actors when conflicts do arise."

seems to be the less hawkish, progressive alternative to AIPAC.

3. I got all excited as I read the first three lines, than I remembered a year or two
ago I wrote something on DU praising the words of some other peace attemters and got screamed at by some DUers.

I'll try again - I support anyone who tries. I support all with a heart for peace.

AIPAC NEEDS AN ALTERNATIVE.

They've been around a while now and I hope everyone here at DU supports them...

p.s. totally unrelated question, but why is yr spelling Americanised? That used to happen to me with Word when a friend in the US sent me a version on disc, so is that happening to you or do you just use US English?

7. On spelling...

My home computer is an old computer (known as 'The Old Fossil', but it still works!) that was given me by an American friend when she returned to America. I kept most of the original software, including Spellcheck, so yes, it's an American version of Spellcheck. In any case, my family, friends and professional contacts are pretty international, so no doubt I get confused between all the different forms!

8. Yeah, I figured it was something like that...
With the version of Word I had, I'd go back and manually correct the spelling, but unless I did it a certain way it'd revert to US English. Thankfully my new computer has the newest version of Word and it's set to our English, so everything's good. :)
