Arab World Furious With Egypt Over Gaza

In the wake of Israel's ongoing air strikes against Gaza, the Arab World is not only protesting Israel's actions, but also Egypt's.

Bloomberg tells of the massive demonstrations against Egypt throughout the Arab world, as many are accusing the country of collusion with Israel in the attacks. The accusations, Bloomberg reports, are fueled by Hamas because of Egypt's reluctance to open the border between it and Gaza.

President Hosni Mubarak said today that Egypt won't reopen its Rafah crossing into Gaza until the rule of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas is restored there. Hamas took control of Gaza in a battle with Abbas's Fatah faction in 2007.

Egypt "failed to ward off the perception that it is conspiring with Israel in declaring a war on the Palestinians," said Diaa Rashwan, an analyst with the Cairo-based Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies. "Israel set up a trap for Egypt and Egypt walked pretty well into it."

Egypt is probably taking oders from the Bush Administration. "Help them and you won't get your money next year"

1. "Israel set up a trap for Egypt", what a bunch of bull
As far as the "Arab World" is concerned, what have THEY done for the Palestinians?

Until ALL parties recognize each other, and accept a two state solution, nothing will change, and before that, until all parties sit down, face to face to talk, the killing will go on

2. At this point I think we'll need a 3-state solution
Kind of a mini-Pakistan/India/Bangledesh.

3. Or a one state solution. If we find out later that this was all just for the election.
Right-wing vs far right-wing. If there's just one state with full voting rights for everybody. Well, we won't have to worry about political stunts anymore!

4. I've been for a one-state solution for a while
The stumblingblock is that Israel would lose its character as "a Jewish state" which I guess is supposed to automatically make me say "well that's a dealbreaker"; I could care less whether it's "a Jewish state" as long as it remains a democratic one.

8. People and countries are responsible for their own actions, but it is interesting to
observe that even the actions of other countries is Israel's fault

The ironic thing is this is from those wonderful Arab neighbors who with all their oil wealth have done very little to help the Palestinians

6. Turkey's National Security Council deep concerned over Israeli attack on Gaza
I know, I know, Turks are not Arabs ...

ANKARA, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Turkey's National Security Council (MGK) Tuesday expressed deep concern over the deaths of hundreds of Palestinians in the Israeli offensive in Gaza, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.

After the last meeting of this year, the Council said in a statement that the organization condemned the Israeli attack on Gaza.

"Military operation should be stopped immediately, the two parties should give a chance to diplomacy," said the statement, adding that humanitarian aid should be allowed to Palestinian people in Gaza and Palestinians should reach a compromise as soon as possible.

In a relevant development, four officials of the ruling Justice and Development Party have quit Turkish-Israeli inter-parliamentary friendship group over the deadly Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

9. Interesting parallels since Turkey is actively bombing the Kurds. The fighting should stop
and all parties brought to the table to negotiate, but I don't think it will happen either

11. Very well put. Eight years have been wasted. Maybe the major powers can get
together and bring back peace talks

Funny, every previous U.S. administration, except the current one, in the last 40 some years, always made some effort to try and engage the parties

This administration tried to throw fuel on the fire

Let us see what an Obama administration can do
