Palestinian FM: Israel on verge of 'anti-peace' government
Palestinian FM: Israel on verge of 'anti-peace' government

By Barak Ravid, Haaretz Correspondent and Haaretz Service

Palestinian Foreign Minister Riad Malki said Sunday that Israel is on the verge of forming an "anti-peace" government that will make future Middle East talks impossible.

"It is very clear from what we have heard, and from what we expect, that we are going to see a far-right Israeli government, an anti-peace government," Malki said at the start of talks with European Union officials in Brussels.

"And if that is the case, all efforts and all expectations for the renewal of negotiations between Israel and Palestine will be totally wasted," Malki said.

The foreign minister called on the international community to pile diplomatic pressure on the next Israeli government, saying, "We have to declare that, sadly, there is no partner on the Israeli side to negotiate with."

2. The Palestinians know anti-peace when they see it.
After all, that's what their leaders have been for 60 years.

3. A cabbage could see that the new Israeli govt is anti-peace...
btw, if Palestinian leaders have been anti-peace for 60 years, how do you explain away the Oslo era?

7. The new Israeli government is a backlash
against the Palestinians and their continued attacks on Israel.

As for Oslo, it was a joke. Hamas and the Popular Front rejected the accords and escalated their attacks on Israelis.

4. So it appears. Very sad.
Not that the Palestinian government is exactly 'pro-peace' either.

I wish that both governments would be replaced by people who actually have brains in their skulls. After all, the Bush government was in the end, so we can but hope.

5. By the Palestinian govt, do you mean Hamas?
If yr talking about the govt in the West Bank, I'd disagree with that, as they have negotiated. When it comes to Hamas being willing to negotiate, I still think Hamas should be given the chance to do so, even if the end result is they refuse to...

6. Yes, I mean Hamas
'I still think Hamas should be given the chance to do so, even if the end result is they refuse to...'

Yes, I agree there - I think all parties should be invited, but it's anyone's guess whether all will agree.
