Egyptian FM: Lieberman is not welcome on our soil
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said yesterday his Israeli counterpart Avigdor Lieberman is not welcome in Egypt. "His feet will not step on Egyptian soil as long as he maintains his positions," Aboul Gheit told Russia Today TV.

Lieberman sparked outrage in Egypt last year when he criticized President Hosni Mubarak in a speech at the Knesset, saying the Egyptian leader could "go to hell." Since Lieberman took office, Egypt has threatened to boycott the foreign minister and Aboul Gheit has said he will not shake his hand. Nevertheless, Aboul Gheit said his country will still work directly with the Israeli government, just not via its Foreign Ministry. He also attacked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition, branding it "an extremist, hard-line government whose leader speaks of war and of rejecting every agreement."

The Foreign Ministry issued no immediate response to Aboul Gheit's comments.

Meanwhile, Egyptian police found 900 kilograms of explosives near the Gaza border yesterday and detained three Palestinian youths on suspicion of crossing illegally into Egypt, security sources said.

1. IDF tightens borders with Egypt and Jordan
The IDF has beefed up forces along Israel's borders with Egypt and Jordan out of concern that terror cells currently operating in the Sinai Peninsula will infiltrate into Israel, defense officials said Wednesday.

Special Forces were deployed along the borders and were laying ambushes to catch terror cells that might try to infiltrate into Israel and particularly Eilat. Egypt has also beefed up its forces along the border with Israel.

On Wednesday evening, after weeks of quiet, a Kassam rocket landed in the Eshkol region in the Western Negev without causing injuries or damages. Defense officials said that the launching of the rocket could have been timed in line with the visit of US Special Envoy George Mitchell to Israel, who was meeting with Defense Minister Ehud Barak at the time.

It was the first Kassam attack since the end of last month, when two rockets struck the western Negev, causing neither casualties nor damage.
