Report: At least 3 rockets hit Israeli port
Edited on Mon Aug-02-10 01:47 AM by oberliner
At least three rockets or mortar bombs struck in and around Israel's southern port of Eilat on Monday but caused no casualties, Israel Radio reported, citing initial information received from emergency services.

Israel's Army Radio said five rockets were believed to have been fired, one of them landing inside neighboring Jordan.

An Israeli police spokesman confirmed only that "a number of a explosions were heard around the Eilat area."

There had been no reports of casualties or damage, the spokesman said.

Both Israel Radio and Army Radio said some of the suspected rockets appeared to have overshot their land targets and landed in the Red Sea. The Israeli military, which is responsible for waters off Eilat, said it was investigating.

Edit to add:

At least 4 Jordanians wounded by rocket attack in Aqaba

The Jordanian interior ministry reported that at least four people were wounded by a rocket that landed near Aqaba's Intercontinental Hotel. Jordanian media outlets reported that the rocket has been identified as a Grad rocket.

At least five rockets were fired Monday towards Eilat Gulf. Three of them landed in the Red Sea, and two others landed in open areas near Eilat. Jordan has increased the deployment of security forces in and around the city of Aqaba and has erected checkpoints.

1. Was the Jordan hit an accident or on purpose?
Or something along the lines of:

"Watch how you aim, you could hit Jordan."

"Oh, what a shame that would be."

2. Eilat rockets likely fired from Egypt - police
Edited on Mon Aug-02-10 02:32 AM by oberliner
JERUSALEM, Aug 2 (Reuters) - A suspected rocket salvo on Israel's southern port of Eilat on Monday was likely fired from neighbouring Egypt, the local police chief said. "It's a little early to say, but it is reasonable to assume that it came from the southern area," District Police Commander Moshe Cohen told Israel Radio, referring to the Egyptian Sinai.

I wonder which group will take credit for this.

3. Eilat is right next to Jordan, you can't aim for Eilat without risking hitting jordan.
Atleast not with the type of rockets that are used for this sort of thing, it might hit Jordan, it might hit Eilat and it might land in the sea, all three happened in this case and all the rockets were probably aimed for about the same point.
