Erdogan Vows New Sanctions After Expelling Diplomat in Turkish-Israel Feud
Tossing out an ambassador, suspending defense ties and boosting Turkey’s naval presence in the eastern Mediterranean won’t be Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s last word in his most recent showdown with Israel.

Erdogan said his government will announce new steps to punish Israel -- not long ago its strongest regional ally -- unless Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu apologizes for the killing of nine Turks last year in an Israeli commando raid at sea. Among the moves may be a visit by Erdogan to the Gaza Strip, ruled by the Islamic group Hamas.

“Because of its political aims in the region, Israel has lost Turkey’s partnership,” the 57-year-old Turkish leader told reporters yesterday in Ankara. “This process will be followed by very different sanctions.”

Erdogan’s remarks -- his first since the United Nations criticized both countries in a 105-page report last week on the Israeli interception of a Turkish aid ship bound for Gaza -- escalated a feud that has been heating up gradually since 2004.

2. Maybe...
because it was not the Syrian Navy that did the deed that caused the ruffle of feathers?

3. Syria tank assault kills 11 near Turkey border
AMMAN (Reuters) - Syrian troops shot dead 11 villagers on Wednesday, residents said, as authorities pressed on with a tank-led assault that has driven thousands of refugees across the northwest border with Turkey.

The assault on Jabal al-Zawya, a region 35 km (22 miles) south of Turkey that has seen spreading protests against President Bashar al-Assad's rule, was launched overnight, a day after authorities said they would invite opponents to talks on July 10 to set up a dialogue offered by Assad.

Opposition leaders have dismissed the offer, saying it is not credible while mass killings and arrests continue. The Local Coordination Committees, a main activists' group, said in a statement on Wednesday that 1,000 people have been arrested arbitrarily across Syria over the last week alone.

A resident of Jabal al-Zawya, a teacher who gave his name as Ziad, told Reuters by phone that among the dead were two youths in the village of Sarja.

"An eleven-year-old child is also badly wounded by random gunfire. We cannot get him out of the village for treatment because the tanks blocked all roads and troops are firing non-stop," he said.

4. That is irrelavant.
Syrian troops can dress in pink ballerina outfits with red clown noses and it will still be irrelevant because (1) It's not Turkish citizens being shot at. (2) The shootings did not occur on Turkish soil or against a Turkish own entity. (3) The spat concerns a certain ferry that had nothing to do with Syria.

SO why bring Syria into the fold of this post then? Misinformation? Misdirection? Unable to control speedy typing fingers?

5. Syrian forces kill fleeing civilian inside Turkish territory
Syrian forces killed at least one civilian on Monday in raids on villages near Turkey designed to stop civilians fleeing across the border to escape a military crackdown on popular unrest, residents and local activists said.

Adelsalam Hassoun, 24, a blacksmith, was killed by army snipers just after he had crossed into Turkey from the village of Ain al-Baida on the Syrian side, his cousin told Reuters by telephone from Syria. “Abdelsalam was hit in the head. He was among a group of family members and other refugees who dashed across the plain to Turkey when six armored personnel carriers deployed outside Ain al-Baida and started firing their machineguns into the village at random this morning,” Mohammad Hassoun said. It was the first large-scale military operation in the border region since June, when thousands of families fled their homes as troops assaulted numerous town and villages that had seen big protests against President Bashar al-Assad.

6. Still irrelavant
Try again. The OP was about the spat between Israel and Turkey over an incident. Your obsession with trying to lasso Syria into this thread only serves a purpose only you would think make sense.

8. Maybe on the third go you'll spell it right
ir·rel·e·vant/iˈreləvənt/
Adjective: Not connected with or relevant to something.

I would note that I did not introduce any discussion of Syria into this thread.

My first post was an article that I thought would provide context to an exchange between you and a different poster.

My last post was just an attempt to correct erroneous information in your response.

Namely:

"(2) The shootings did not occur on Turkish soil or against a Turkish own entity"

There have been such shootings.

Feel free to re-direct the thread to whatever you feel is most relevant to discuss in relation to the OP.

19. You know what they say...
Can't attack the message, attack the messenger. You obviously know what "relavant" meant and I apologize if my misspelling caused you distress. I didn't use the spell checker.

"(2) The shootings did not occur on Turkish soil or against a Turkish own entity"
There have been such shootings. "

Yes there have. But not on the incident at sea. See? Unless you know otherwise...or it's all foggy at sea.

You did not introduce the redirection of the OP to Syria but you sure as hell tried to push it forwards once redirected. Unless you have some authentic reasons supporting the fellow who thought it was a good snazzy idea for Turkey to take out its anger out on Syria for something Israel did. Do you? That is what the reply I made was about.

It is my profound hope that all parties make peace with one another so that no innocent people are killed, be they Israeli, Turkish, or otherwise.

16. The depths of stupidity here begin to impress.
Such haste to burn ones bridges.

I have doubts that Lieberman has anything specific in mind WRT Kurdish groups, Armenians, etc. That is a very old dispute.

18. Lieberman does "air politics", like rock wannabes do air guitar.
Belligerence is not in itself a substitute for a strategy or a plan.
