yup, Richard Gage and his merry band of a/e's are suggesting $911 / month as a sustaining donation to their quaint organization.

It was tacky, and DU'er were up in arms, when Rudy was looking for $9.11 campaign donations. Is it similarly tacky when a "truth" organization does it too?

1. The issue isn't fund-raising -- it's what is done with the funds
Edited on Wed Apr-09-08 08:24 AM by HamdenRice
The issue is simple: Randi created a non-profit "educational foundation" and then funneled so much money to himself, that his organization reported hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses, and therefore, Randi is misusing funds, and committing a fraud on both the contributors and the American taxpayer.

But I suppose that JREF fundamentalists cannot see this. They are like those doomsday cultists who were told, the world will end on June 15, 1997. On June 16, 1997, they adjust their predictions.

Some JREF members are appropriately outraged. But the hardcore JREF cultists just change the definitions of "non-profit" and "foundation."

Generally, JREF thinking on the JREF board is circular and tautological, and the cultist members keep their "thinking helmets" on tight enough to ensure that no ideas get in.

3. Is this the JREF board? No.
I don't see anything in the OP about the JREF, so maybe you could stay on topic and discuss something relevant.

7. Sorry
Sorry, but I haven't accepted the Amazin' Randi as my lord and savior, and as my only intellectual lode star.

For that reason, I assume that he is subject to criticism just like any other mortal.

The topic of the OP is the oft repeated, rather idiotic, meme that there is something wrong with people involved in 9/11 truth organizations raising money.

There isn't.

I provided as a contrasting example what is truly unscrupulous fundraising, and the truly unscrupulous use of a "non profit" "educational foundation."

Sorry, but because I'm not a member of the JREF cult, I assumed it is acceptable to use him as a counter example to the OP.

Silly me!

9. There is no "JREF cult" that I am aware of.
I have been a member of their forums for a year or so, and there has been no mention of a "cult". Perhaps you are confusing this group with another?

You were not particularly clear in your "counter example". It just appeared to be an unrelated attack on James Randi and the JREF. Next time you might want to keep in mind that the rest of us do not necessarily enter the conversation holding the same views as you, and therefore might need a little explanation first of what point you are trying to make.

6. It was in poor taste when Rudy did it. Gage's outfit wants the money so they can investigate,
and to aid educational efforts. Not to make Richard Gage President.

10. And it is in equally poor taste when Gage does it.
He doesn't seem to be interested in "investigating" anything, as he just regurgitates the same old nonsense that he's cribbed from others and that has been addressed a thousand times before.

How's Gage coming along with his tax-exempt, charitable organization status, by the way?
