Will Barack Obama open the X-Files (UFO investigations) to the public?
Edited on Thu Dec-04-08 05:52 PM by Joanne98
UFO enthusiasts have their own PAC. The Extraterrestrial Phenomenon Political Action Committee is gathering signatures in the days leading up to President-Elect Obama's inauguration in an effort to get the new President to disclose military "contacts" with UFOs. The EP PAC believes that it is time for the US to open the so called "X-Files" to the American public, following Britain's example last year.

The EP group are optimistic because John Podesta, head of President-elect Obama's White House transition team, has voiced his support for opening the files to the public.

Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico is another UFO aficionado who is expected to have a cabinet position in President-elect Obama's administration. With Podesta and Richardson on board, the EP group believes they have a chance at getting the so-called X-Files released to the public.

The term "X-Files" name originated with the popular television show of that name. The US Air Force is said to have investigated sightings and reports of UFOs from 1947 until 1969 under a project known as Project Blue Book. UFO enthusiasts believe that Project Blue Book was "just a low level collection and disinformation program created under Project Sign (of December 1947) which evolved into Project Grudge (of December 1948) to cover up the true investigation in to the alien presence on Earth."

2. No matter what the outcome, the conspiracy industry will roll on.
If every reported sighting right up to yesterday were released with all supporting information about everything imaginable, it would be called a diversionary tactic. The only way people can account for the failure of aliens to show up reliably and get photographed (despite the vast levels of public interest and fiscal reward that would descend upon anyone successfully doing so) is to say it's a cover-up staged by an all powerful government made up of people who Don't Want You To Know (but are OK with lots of books and articles which 'expose' this terrifying 'fact').

I'm lately coming to the conclusion that many UFO nuts (ie conspiracists rather than the merely curious) are actually closet authoritarians, who are characterized by a belief in absolutely total government omnipotence. It would be interesting to carry out a Milgram-style social experiment on these folk to get a handle on how they would behave if they were persuaded that they had been recruited into the conspiracy and would be richly rewarded for helping to perpetuate it.

3. IMO conspiracists are more akin to
religious zealots than authoritarians.

Then have a firm unshakable belief in their view no matter what evidence is presented. This is maintained by incorporating all contradictory information or evidence into their perception of reality by widening the scope of the coverup.

The major difference is religious zealots will inevitably admit it comes down to faith, whereas the conspiracists actually believe the evidence points to an ever widening conspiracy.

4. anigbrowl has a good point, though

Key to a lot of this stuff is the ability of the government to buy off or intimidate veritable legions of witnesses. It does make you wonder about the integrity of those who spin some theories, since they seem to believe that such silence is so readily bought.

5. Some questions, Joanne

1. Do the aliens know that the US government is covering up their existence?

2. If so, are the aliens cooperating with the US government coverup?

3. If the aliens are cooperating with the coverup, don't you think it will piss them off no end if the US government spills the beans?

I mean, surely, these aliens aren't that stupid. They can travel vast distances through space and/or time, but they depend on the US government to conceal their existence. If they disagree with that policy, surely they can make themselves known in quite a dramatic way. But if they agree with the policy - perhaps having struck a deal which itself is secret - then aren't you trying to get us all killed?

4. If the aliens are not cooperating with the coverup, can't they show up in other countries or make themselves directly known?

You seem to believe the US government is able to outsmart the aliens and keep their existence secret. Don't they land in any other country?

9. Duh. They speak alien, so they can't understand our newspapers and TeeVee.
They have solutions for all humanity's problems, but keep getting fooled by the evil Government Interpreters who show them Steven Spielberg films in order to mislead them about their impact on humanity.
