As I've said above, this is simply a mistake. For three hours before the building collapsed, the FDNY suspected the building would fall and were keeping people from searching the established collapse zone for victims. It was tough to sit there and listen to rescue beacons and not go try to help people. It was an angry, chaotic scene at times.

And somehow, a report that the building was about to fall, or was in the process of falling, became a report that the building had fallen. Reuters picked it up and several news organizations mentioned it. BBC did, CNN came close (although I believe Aaron Brown turned around and saw the Salomon Brothers building was still standing while getting the report), and then this FOX local did.

It was just a simple mistake, on a day filled with many.

a bit later? try eight seconds, during which you can watch the building shuddering, windows breaking loose, the collapse spread along the roof, the entire building suddenly twisting, and then falling - and not straight down. Other angles that show more of the collapse (did you know you're only looking at 18 floors of a 47 building in that shot, wildbill?) show how far the building fell to the south. The entire north facade draped over the debris pile in the end, proof the building fell to the south.

I don't feel the need to explain anything about thermite until you can put it in the building, wildbill, and show just how it was used. Be sure to watch the National Geographic special on Monday, where they show just how ineffective thermite is against a steel beam.
