The iron mask of censorship at Daily Kos
Here is the exact wording from the FAQ section over at Daily Kos:

Controversial 9/11 Diaries
DailyKos accepts that the 9/11 attacks were perpetrated by agents of Al-Qaeda. It is forbidden to write diaries that:
1. refer to claims that American, British, Israeli, or any government assisted in the attacks
2. refer to claims that the airplanes that crashed into the WTC and Pentagon were not the cause of the damage to those buildings or their subsequent collapse
Authoring or recommending these diaries may result in banning from Daily Kos.

=============================

"It is forbidden....." VERBOTTEN !!!
- thanks to Daily Kos for openly describing their policy of censorship and suppression with pride and characteristic Orwellian arrogance.

1. At least they are up front about it
It is pretty discouraging, isn't it?

As the fundamentalist catchphrases would have it, "The government said it, I believe it, that settles it, hallelujah!"

I've seen the mobs there (and for that matter, here) attack those Dems who step over the line by discussing forbidden viewpoints. It's not just the official pronouncement about what is acceptable, it is enforced by fellow posters.

Keep that edict bookmarked, you may need to remind people occasionally that there are some subjects where liberal Democrats do not allow dissent or discussion. And that should make all of us stop and think about how we can and should deal with those of us who share many of our basic goals but have disagreements on some individual issues.

2. No website can be all things to all people.
Kos is a site dedicated to electoral efforts and political activism. There are plenty of conspiracy sites out there.

3. If we want to win elections for the next 40 years straight ...
all we have to do is prove the truth about 9/11. The Republicans will be in worse shape than the Democrats after the civil war, or the Republicans after Herbert Hoover.

So the electoral politics excuse doesn't fly.

If we want to win elections, we need to get out the truth of the criminality of the Bush administration.

7. The way things are going, the Dems are sunk by 9/11 truth too.
Except for Cynthia Mckinney, they're actively aiding the coverup.

The only way I can explain it is the notion that peak oil is for real,
and the top Dems agree that occupying Iraq and taking away civil
liberties is a necessary evil, and they'll go along with it in the
context of a plausibly deniable action that can be explained away
by invoking the concepts of a band of renegade lunatics seizing the
Republican party and election fraud that kept them in power.

Hey, there's a writeup in the New York Times! (Haven't read it, but there it is.)

22. Actually, I lied, Hope. I wasn't there.
Edited on Mon Jun-05-06 05:01 PM by petgoat
I sometimes lie about my whereabouts to try to keep my identity
private. I didn't want to admit I wasn't there, so I said I was.

You do believe me, right?

4. Continue to post 9/11 truth at dailykos.com
9/11 truth is winning there (polls at 75-80%) in spite of the failed attempts at censorship.

Always include a poll if you do a diary.

Recommend the posts that include truth.

Be polite, yet firm.

6. Exactly...
If fate smiles down on us, and the truth surfaces, kos, just like every other news outlet who fears reprisals for including this subject in their websites, will be all over it. A plus for DU is they have at least allocated a forum for the subject. Plus, as depressing as it is, there are still millions who do not know anything, or simply flat out refuse to believe the govenment had anything to do with 9/11. These people will visit a website for news, and if they see the taboo topic mentioned, they immediately vacate the premises. The upside of denial, ignorance, or what they percieve as "lack of a smoking gun", is it gives people a chance to be dissuaded from supporting the regime, without having to deal with the 9/11 conspiracy. There are a lot of good sites out there who are fighting the good fight, and I suppose I feel fortunate to be able to discuss this verboten topic with intelligent people of like minds here on DU, even if they do send us to our room to do it. Thanks.

8. Life in the slow lane
I actually prefer the slow turnover of topics and relatively low level of trolling here in the DU 9/11 ghetto, compared to the short attention span and mindless reaction which is the fate of far too many front-page topics.

10. Yeah, I think they prohibited election fraud at one point, too
so I have no use for them. There are no bigger issues, really, then 911 and election fraud.

14. "or any government assisted in the attacks"
Edited on Sun Jun-04-06 02:25 PM by pauldp
Wow. So I guess you can't even talk about the Pakistani ISI connection
as reported by the Times of India and the WSJ because that would be evidence that
another government assisted in the attacks.
I guess if I posted at KOS I would work around that by
discussing what Al Qaeda is, where it came from, the connections between Al Qaeda
and Bush Family.

Boy that is some hard core gate keeping.

or start your own forum and set your own rules. Kos, Skinner, Elad and EarlG, have the right to decide what to allow and what not to allow on the fora that they own and operate.

25. So go there
and post to your hearts content. I do not understand why you people come here if you think the posters are "insane". You applaud Kos because they disallow 911 conversations so you must want DU to discontinue 911 conversation yet you come here and post . Can you explain that to me? Are you trying to "save" DU? That doesn't make any sense either because most of you guys don't post any where else in DU but here.
