How 'Stolen Honor' Hurts Bush
I think it simply draws parallels between Iraq and Vietnam.

The majority of Americans feel Vietnam was indeed lost. Its intentions were perceived as good, the attempts at realizing those intentions were and are perceived as not.

Why was it lost? Because of the incompetency of the administration. Of its refusal to withdrawl for anything other than political considerations. Of its secrecy.

Hallmarks of each conflict:

*Improper planning
*No exit strategy outside of
*Vietnam-/Iraq-ization of security forces

I don't see this connection making its way to Bush's base, but, then, again, I don't think evidence to the round earth theory would do much to sway many minds in that camp. However, I do think the parralels can and are being formed by those not drinking the Kool-Aid.

Regardless of how well 'Stolen Honor' is produced, no matter how snazzy and heart-wrenching it might be, chances are not many people will see it on a Friday night.

Since the majority of Americans will go into the election not having seen it, I think it's important these kinds of similarities are brought to the attention of the American public.

My $0.02.

1. If that were what would be showing
then I'd tend to agree. Do you think the parts they show will highlight persons of privilege getting into the National Guard? Do you think the parts shown will talk about exit strategies? Do you think it will be a discussion of how we got into the war and why?

The only 'good' thing about this is that it's a Friday night and there will be plenty of people attending high school football games or happy hour.

2. I agree with the thread title

Kerry wins this one. If Sinclair had been able to pull off their original plan--broadcast the film with minimal comment by the media--I think it might have hurt Kerry marginally in swing states.

This story has gotten so much attention, though, the message voters have gotten is, "Republicans will tell any set of lies to get Bush re-elected and their rich friends will show it on tv".

That's a good message for Democrats. I hope the Sinclair documentary is over the top--gruff voice--nasty music. "That's a load of crap--how stupid do they think I am" is what most--seriously--will take from this.

3. It's a non-event
Rather than show the "Stolen Honor" video on different nights in prime-time, they're showing a "news special" about political pressure in the media which "includes" SH footage at 7 PM on Friday. Their audience (except for Freepers) is going to be out at dinner or the movies.
