1. Add C.
How many will not vote because they died from flu comlications? I don't see this as tinfoil at all; it's obvious what * is pulling here.

6. Another group affected by Flu Shots
In addition to seniors, this concept also works with HIV positive individuals. We know how much the Repugs are concerned about them...

12. I found that interesting also
I also found it interesting that in the debate bush said they were trying to get the vaccines from Canada. Now they say those aren't able to be delivered, but I just thought that it was strange he said Canada considering that we aren't allowed to get meds from there.

I work in health care, so I usually get suckered into getting one from the gals at work. But the 2 yrs I actually got the flu shot...are the 2 years I actually got the flu!! Last year after getting influenza A, after having the flu shot. I will NEVER ever get the flu shot again. I personally think the damn shot is all hype! :P

Anyone else have the same experience???

7. My 71 year old mother, who has suppressed immunities
damn near died three weeks after getting the flu shot last year - sicker than a dog. She has had flu shots in years prior to that without incident, but apparently had a reaction to that one. She should have the shot with her health problems, but is reluctant to take the risk of getting that sick again.

Probably just as well, there's absolutely nowhere to get the shot in her vicinity as far as I can find out.

13. The one year I did get the flu shot.....
I must have had some reaction to it, as I just felt lousy, not full fledged flu, but something. Don't care if I get a flu shot or not.

14. Seems to me it usually is just hype --
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 09:22 AM by NCevilDUer
The vaccine that is produced is effective against only 1 or 2 strains of flu, and because of the lead time needed to produce the vaccine, no one knows what strain of flu is going to take off. It's a crap shoot on any given year if the vaccine will match up with the flu strain that is circulating.

Don't worry about the shot. Orange juice, chicken soup, avoid large crowds, and wash your hands.

Be well.

And Welcome to DU, Iowagal

18. Hospitals overburdened because of folks w/no health insurance
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 10:46 AM by bigtree
Less money in pockets for preventive care. Seems to me that the drug companies aren't working hard enough to determine the need or provide the supply because they don't profit when the unused vaccines are discarded. That could be remedied by a greater partnership between the government and the manufacturers that demands more than a mere grab for cash without responsibility as the last Medicare bill offered.

8. except
you still can't control where or who it hits. Too iffy to be a plot. Besides, it KILLS more seniors, but it hits everybody. And sometimes, like in 1918-1919, it kills younger people MORE than seniors (this is unusual though)

19. If That's the Reasoning
it's a pretty counterproductive plan. The shortage is not going over well with seniors at all, especially Bush's hands-off, blame-lawsuits response.

The number of seniors who will NOT be sick or dead with the flu in two weeks is a hundred times as great as those who will be.
