The media covers non stories like Laura Bush/THK because they need
to fill time and they are lazy and don't want to do real reporting about real issues.

Plain and simple. This bullshit is easier for them.

2. Not exactly--right now it's because they are desperately trying to
whore for Bush. I about spit up today when I saw CNN trying to go apeshit over Teresa's "job" remarks about Laura but doing a very brief coverage of Pat Robertson's "no casualities" remark. Hmmmm, let's see, what is more important to the nation: Teresa insults the invisible bimbo who lives in the attic of the White House OR an insane lunatic who lives downstairs in the Oval Office thought he could take over an entire country without anybody having a boo-boo!! We report---you decide.

3. Bullshit...it is about getting the MOM vote
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 07:41 AM by Atman
Period. Listen to the chatter amongst them..."Being a mom is hard work!" "Moms need to know their babies are safe and protected" (One of them actually said this this morning on CNN...what it had to do with what THK said is beyond me).

No, I disagree with you 100%. This is an example of following the GOP talking points to help elect the Bush cabal which will best advance the media's self-interest.

10. Yep. And if we don't start to take back the spin
we're going to lose with the security mom demographic which is so crucial.

The media are corporate whores but it's our side's job to at least try to control the spin. We're doing a terrible job.

5. I can distinctly remember a time
when reporters wrote their own copy, researched their own stories and were actually journalists. Now they're talking heads, reading anything that flashes in front of them on a teleprompter. I can just remember the Kennedy assassination, where you could see reporters pounding away on typewriters in the background while Walter Cronkite tried to keep up with the influx of information.

Ever since "infotainment" began in the late 1970's, with the introduction of the first "news magazines" and "personality anchormen", television news has gone right down the toilet. It's to the point now where all that matters is ratings - and tragically, only scandal and "human interest" gets ratings. So they play scandal and "human interest" to death.

8. Human interest :shudder:
those stories are why I don't watch local news. I HATE those things.

That and the stories of animal abuse that are on from time to time... but that's off-topic.

I detest human interest stories. THEY'RE NOT NEWS!
