Don't tell the Freepers, but
I ripped my finger open on a staple as I was replacing yet ANOTHER sign that was ripped off. The neighbor's sign was taken, too (for the fourth time). So, we've put up three more signs, coated them in Tanglefoot, and I put up a hand-made "Stealing our signs won't help bush steal another election" sign, as suggested by DU. That sign is sort of hard to read at 45 mph, but whoever is taking the signs has to slow down to grab them, right?

Despite the constant thefts, the K/E signs still outnumber the bu/fu signs by a wide margin, and people don't seem to steal the Feingold signs, for the most part.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... wanna see which finger I cut open?

2. Did you plant an American flag with your new signs?
Maybe they'll think twice about destroying more signs if they respect the flag.

3. These maggots don't respect anything but their own viewpoints.
The American flag may just set them off as they often seem to feel they have 'dibs' on that too.

4. A friend of mine had five or six signs stolen. So. . .
He dug a pair of holes in his front yard. Then he stuck the spokes into a pair of quick-drying-cement bags, let it harden, planted the sign, and covered it up. He likes the idea of some whackaloon Freeper throwing his back out trying to rip that little bastard off the lawn.

6. I still think
rubbing poison ivy over them would be a sweet touch.

It's probably illegal to plant mines around your signs but poison ivy? Then when the Neanderthals scratch their balls... heh heh heh.

7. HA
my sister, fellow DUer, Birthday, was speculating as to the effectiveness of putting Lydocaine on the signs, mixed with the Tanglefoot. We figured that if it worked well enough to begin to numb the freeper's fingers, they just might freak out!

12. What is tanglefoot?
I'm putting out new signs this weekend (to replace the 5 vandalized or stolen so far) and I plan on doing some major boobytrapping.

15. Tanglefoot is a super-sticky goo that you can get at
garden supply places.

Think fly paper.

19. Just don't put it on the top
inch or two of the sign, where birds perch.

You can get tanglefoot in different strengths - from insect to human, really!!! We're using the light-strength, though my neighbor (never make a creative scientist angry) is thinking of ordering the super-strong stuff. Wouldn't it be fun to find the freepers stuck on our signs when we wake up in the morning? :D

8. Someone should put up signs that say....
"Bush is not for Security" and wrap the sign in barbed wire. This might be difficult to steal and also send a message.

10. I still say wire those suckers up to a 120 outlet
You know, not enough juice to kill them(unless it is wet out), just make them jump around a bit and think better of their ways.

But that's just me, mileage may vary.

13. I DO have a
battery-powered electric fencer, however the cops have suggested that that would not be a good idea (they loved the use of the Tanglefoot, though).

11. So far my window sign is intact
Where I live in Brown Deer WI it's half 'n half. Near where I work in Ozaukee County it's mostly Bush signs like you might expect, but a wonderful person on the outskirts of Grafton has many many lovely Kerry signs in the front yard. I detour past there sometimes just to smile...

14. Tape a smaller sign underneath your sign
...that says 24 HOUR VIDEO SURVEILLANCE IN EFFECT. I would also do all the other fun stuff, to include POOP on the lawn, carefully removing a portion of your lawn, digging an ankle breaking hole or two, and then REPLACING the sod over the open hole, the poison ivy, the vaseline all over the posts, the barbed wire, whatever it takes.

16. notice how teenagers steal bush signs, but grown men steal kerry signs?
sign stealing is rampant on both sides, but when you look at who gets caught... i mean jeez... you can tell which side is more mature

18. post hole pit traps
Man I wish I could have this happening to me. I would set deep, deep pit traps around my sign and cover them with leaves. Not wide pit traps but ones just big around enough for a foot or A LEG to fall into. See, what you do is get a post-hole digger (screw driver shovel looking thing) and dig deep 8 inch wide holes about 4 feet deep. Then easily obscure the the hole with some leaves and repeat as necessary around your sign.

Wait until you hear the howling from the trapped traitors as they fall in up to their groin. They could break a leg I guess, but hey, they got great health insurance that they don't need any help with from the government right!?
