1. And Tweety is giving him some great arguments about Bush
not really being pro- life, that pro life voters should not vote for Bush because he will not be trying to change abortion rights.
He's on fire tonight!
And great news that Kerry is 18 points up from just a few weeks ago among Catholics. Beats Bush!

8. Chris did well tonight...
I liked Chris' challenge of Donahue -- who was totally out of control in contrast to Matthews and the Priest.

3. You can tell Repugs by lookin' at 'em...

McSweeny & Dononue came on screen. McSweeny smiling, looks kind, the kind of priest you'd like to have a beer with.
Donohue scowling, head too big... I thought... he must be the Bush supporter. Sure 'nuff he starts yelling for no reason & tuning red in the face.
Good news: Kerry has picked up 17 points among white Catholics. And Tweety did a good job of smacking Donohue down.

9. Listen up women!
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 06:27 PM by Catt03
Tweety's suggestion to Donahue that if a woman seeks an abortion she should be jailed.

What a disgrace to even suggest the possibility. And talking about women like they are objects for political discussion is frightening and deliberate.

11. I think perhaps that he is pointing out the hypocrisy of their position.
Edited on Thu Oct-21-04 06:32 PM by flpoljunkie
They consider abortion murder, but they are not willing to hold anyone responsible for this murder.

I like the fact that Tweety pointed out Republicans never actually do anything to stop abortion when they are elected.

Always like to point out that Roe v. Wade is not an unfettered right to have an abortion. The state's interests begins at the end of the first trimester which means they have a right to regulate abortion after this period.

13. I know
Matthews was pusing him to the wall. However, just the sound bite is upsetting to me. I think that even asking a question like "should women be jailed" is unacceptable.

10. Great hardball sgement
I am a practicing Catholic and am morally pro-life (like Kerry) but I am a Democrat and I think the Hardball segment was great. I am an ardent Kerry supporter by the way and i think my Christian values are much more Kerry in the tradtio of Dortyh Day and social justice.

Matthews, who is Catholic, nailed Donahue and the monsignor on Abortion and the "culture of life". The problem with abortion issues is their is no remedy.

This is a great segment and Catholics should watch this.

If u are not going to legally change the abortion law, if you are not going to make a Constituitional Amendment then what is the purpose of bringing up this issue?

Democrats should call the Repubs on this and point out since Roe Vs. Wade their has been 16 years of Republican rule and nothing has happened. Bush will not overturn Roe vs. Wade, so in essence, Bush is pro-choice. Kerry and Bush have the same position: I am against abortion persoanlly, but we will not make any laws or push to overturn it.

Kerry says he won't overturn Roe vs. Wade, Bush straddles the line, but their legislative goal is the same, the status quo.

And for those who say abortion is killing and accuse those of murder, what is the remedy? Put women in jail? Put doctors in jail? For how long? If you perform an abortion do you get the death penalty?

Wow. I would love to see this as the debate.

I am so frustarted that the Repubs use the abortion issue to gain control of the government (this issue spawned the Christian fundamentalist movement).

So for Catholics here is my choice:

Kerry will not overtunrn Roe vs. Wade. So then my focus shifts to Bush because I vote on abortion. Bush will not overturn Roe vs. Wade.

So that is a wash argument.

If you are voting for Bush in this election because you are pro-life, then he really is a flase choice. I think Kerry's debate performance and him answering the Catholic question is why we have seen a Catholic surge.
