Bush to finish his 2004 presidential campaign in DALLAS, TEXAS!
His last rally tomorrow night before the election will be held in DALLAS. What does this mean? Has the gap closed in Texas? Does Bush know he's going to lose so he's stumping for Republicans running in the area? Or is it just a stop before he heads home?

Do you think Kerry will be making a stop in Boston for a major rally?

Why doesn't Bush use this time for one final rally in a swing state? WHY Texas? It doesn't make sense....I mean typically a candidate holds their final rally in a major swing state and then they go to their homes for election day. Gore ended his campaign in Florida I believe.....you'd think Bush would be doing the same?

Or does he think he has it locked up and doesn't feel the need to campaign in these states?

Hm.....

4. It's psychology
He wants to create the illusion of confidence, by showing that he doesn't have to finish his campaign in a battleground. It's actually fairly smart, and it wouldn't be a bad idea for Kerry to do something similar.

13. That to me is two fold though....
Edited on Mon Nov-01-04 01:48 AM by Sean Reynolds
Because in a close election not having a rally in a battle ground state MAY give the illusion that one has given up on the election and is realistically just having one final rally for the Republicans at home.

If this were a blowout in the polls (If Bush were leading by 10 or so), I'd say you were right...but it just doesn't make sense in a close election.

And if Bush is trying to make it seem like they've got it in the bag MANY Republicans might just stay home......

15. They Expect About 25,000 In Boston
There's going to be a Kerry rally on election night.

Personally, I like Kerry winding up in Wisconsin and sewing up the state once and for all. The swing through New Hampshire today was also a great move.

Kerry's spent most of the last week in what would have been solid Bunnypants territory in 2000 (Orlando, Southern Ohio, New Hampshire). Last week we saw he sealed the deal in Pennsylvania and Michigan, then into Ohio, New Hampshire, Florida & Iowa...and tomorrow onto Wisconsin. This campaign is running smart.

On the other hand (and yes I enjoy gloating), Bunnypants' Bubble Tour has stayed in safe Red areas almost exclusively...even in the Blue states. We saw diversionary visits to New Jersey & Michigan and a hail mary in Pennsylvania & Ohio.

Wasn't the manchild supposed to wind up in Washington? Now he's going to Texas? Better keep the pretzels locked up, the bike out of sight, the liquor stores shuttered and keep Pickles away from parking cars!

17. Naw
I'd rather that Kerry campaign election day in a crucial state like Gore did with Florida.

20. That's not Rove

That was the strategy in 2000 when Shrub was sent off to California, attempting to create the illusion that everything was so sewn up everywhere else that he may as well try for a few more votes to add to the then projected pop vote total and/or give the Dems a little scare by messing with supposedly safe territory.

If that were the strategy this time, this would be the opposite way of invoking it, and it doesn't work the same.

To be honest, I'm not sure what this means because it could me dozens of things. One thing is certain. There is a reason behind it. To paraphrase a line, the average Rovian don't take a crap without a plan.

Whatta weener.

Edit: Oh, yeah, and he's trying for a great photo-op. I hope his rally or rallies get busted by hecklers.

19. It Is A 'Last Hurrah', Mr. Reynolds
His handlers are being kind to him, and giving him one last quaff of the heady brew of unadulterated adulation in mammoth draughts only a Dallas audience could possibly provide him. It is a confession of defeat, rather like telling the wounded man you must leave on the field to use all the morphine ampules at one....

21. All this tin foil shit leaves me cold.
That being said, he has run the goddamdest strange campaign I've ever seen. Taking several days off the campaign trail. Coming to the first debate totally unprepared. Campaigning in New Jersey. Staying out of Ohio for weeks. Sending that decrepit old bastard Cheney to Hawaii a couple of days ago. WTF was that about? Ending his campaign in Texas.

And then there was the strategy itself. The whole strategy was designed from the start to try to put a collar on Bush -- keep him from slipping much below, or climbing much above, 50% of the vote. It was a low percentage play, like bunting in baseball when you have a runner on second with one out.

It makes you look at all these voting fraud conspiracy theories and wonder.
