I just don't understand it. I don't think my generation is ever going to get off its ass.

4. Well, I'm proud of you
You got out there and did your best, so did my 18 year old son, and a lot of his twenty something friends who had never voted. Don't give up yet on your peers.

6. AGREED
HUGE disappointment. HUGE letdown. I am NOT a freeper, honestly!!! However, and as much as it really does disgust me to do so, I think I am going to have to agree with Falafel O'Reilly on this one. It seems that 18-24 year-olds couldn't get away from the bong long enough to vote.

14. They showed up
late as usual,
but they did show up.

Some of them had to go back home to change their clothing,
seeing as how your are not allowed to wear your heart on your sleeve,
or chest for that matter,
but they WERE there
and they were there only because they want to evict clear the Bush from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

every single person in the class, almost all 18-30.

I saw LOTS of 18-24 at the polls. Lots of them doing election day registration.

11. Because media is reporting virtually identical
turnout in 18-29 y.o. as 2000.

12. Are you talking from first hand experience
or are you listening to the exit polls. Gobs of people at my campus voted and there's 11,000 of us. And that's just one school in DC.

16. The absentee youth vote may not have been counted yet...
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 11:09 PM by babyreblin
This could be huge since lots of people this age range are in college or in the military. I know I did absentee in FL. I've heard they haven't counted the absentee yet. They are not exit polls for absentee either.

13. My son is just 5
and a 8:15, when Tennessee was called "red," he BEGGED me to move to a "blue" state.
I told him that I'd have to sell the house, he wouldn't have Grandma to pick him up from school - he said, "Well, it's better than livin' with a bunch of stupids." (He's 5 - his vocabulary is understandable - his cognative reasoning, however, is above the president's).
So... does anyone in a blue state need a journalist?
If I move, it will be to take up my former profession.

19. Well, I was at the polls this morning
Lines were big, and I did look around. I'm not a perfect judge of age, but to be honest, I think 17% would be a very generous estimate of how many 18-24 year olds I saw.

I think that young people like to talk a good game, post a good game, and register a good game, but based on these results and my own personal observations, it's not clear that they actually VOTE a good game.

20. I'm not surprised sadly...
I know a lot of young people who were energized and excited but didn't vote, didn't think about absentees, or still didn't give a crap.

*sigh*
