I am sorry to say that you have a lot of messed up people down that way. What the hell is it going to take for people down there to realize they are just voting against their own best interests? Casting a vote for Bush and the rest of the Neocon freaks is just going to make their situation worse. I am so sorry for all of you that to put up with their overwhelming crap!

This is the big reason I do not live in the South. And I am sorry for all of you that live there that have to deal with all of the Republican crap. I really do!

John

3. former southerner chiming in....
Born and raised in the south, educated in Virginia and Georgia. I don't know what to say. I am so disappointed. Not surprised, just very, very saddened. Personally, I'd like for the entire west coast to secede. Most of the rest of it isn't my America any longer.

10. Shhhhhh...you're not supposed to talk about that.
It might blow the comforting illusion that everything would just be hunky dory if we could only get rid of those pesky southerners somehow. If you do that, then people might have to do some serious thinking about why most regular folks in the country do not believe that liberals give a shit about them, and that would be too uncomfortable for most so-called "progressives."

11. you mean, I'm not supposed to say that Indiana's not in the South? -
and neither is Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Utah, nor Arizona? well, okay, maybe Arizona is pretty FAR south, but it's not really "the South" now is it?

Damn, I didn't KNOW that I wasn't supposed to say that. And double-damn, I accidentally said it again, didn't I?

5. Louisiana gives me hope that we can win the south some day...
Then again if Vitter wins tonight that may be a bit different. WTF happened to our Dem governor in Mississippi, our Dem gov and Senator in Georgia, etc?

8. nc is schizo
we re-elect a dem governor but go with a rep senator. par for the course. and it pisses me off. has ever since '84 when i first got involved in nc politics in college. with 32 years of jesse helms, we treasured the times terry sanford and john edwards won their jr. senator seats. but whoever said god, guns and gays got it right. it's a sad fuckin' fact 'o life down here. rich and poor seem to vote republican if the demagogues press the emotional issues button. this time it seemed to be the clinton bogeyman in the burr-bowles (clinton chief of staff) race.

6. its rural
not southern. That is the problem. Carville was talking about that on CNN. We need to focus on the rural votes and that will help to offset the south.

9. Ya know what it is?

In too many of these communities, there is no social life but the church. No church, no recognition in the community. I'm starting to take the whole "reconstructionist" and "Dominionist" plots more seriously. Looks like the Statue of Justice will remain behind the Ashcroft curtain.

13. I had said once
That what I am up against here in Texas is people that only read the Local Newspaper, Church Bulletin and NRA. It's a tough battle when they really don't have a clue what is going on in the world.
