Whatever happens today, I am disgusted with my country,
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 12:17 AM by JaySherman
That it has to be this close in the first place is absolutely shameful. Every red state that voted for Bsuh: shameful. The 8 states that voted to ban same sex marriages: shameful. The fact that we could not take back the Senate, despite the large voter turnout: shameful. The election of another right-wing wackjob (OK) to the Senate: shameful. The re-election of Tom Delay: shameful. Even if Kerry wins, I cannot be proud of America. Not now, and maybe not for a long, long time.

4. I have to agree with you, how could I respect these ignorant
people after this? I thought perhaps I could, I just cannot, I am honestly sickened by the thought of that criminal administration getting even one vote...

What they hell is wrong with these people?

5. I am too.
I've got to move back north soon. New England is calling me. It's the last fucking sane part of the country besides a few blue states on the west.

people were waking up and coming out of the woodwork to talk about what is going on. After tonight, I am just in shock. I cannot believe what is happening.

shameful, embarrasing, depressing and appalling.

While it won't change much, Kerry can still pull this out. At least then there is a faint hope.

11. This is not the America I grew up in
I didn't grow up in a country that was filled with so much hate. I didn't grow up in an America where it's every man for themselves. I didn't grow up in an America where we think we can march across the globe and scorch the earth whenever we damn feel like it. I hate what my country has become, and I cry for all the good qualities we have lost.

15. I am now giving serious thought to staying in Japan permanently
This isn't the country I grew up in either. When did we become filled with so much hate? Where did we go wrong? Sure I'll miss family, friends, the beautiful scenery, all the variety American has to offer (for the time being, anyway), and people that speak English. But here I have a peaceful life, a comfortable job that pays a living wage, a woman I'm planning on marrying. Honestly, why should I give that up to go back to a place filled with so much hate?

12. Yeah, it's sure told me something...
I was hoping it was media spin, but it's sadly true...

A large number of my fellow citizens are biggoted, ignorant, dumb sheep who won't fucking think for themselves, or even bother to look at the issues except for when Rush tells them how to think about them.

If Kerry does manage to win, he's gonna have the rabid Repbulican dogs biting at his legs for the next 4 years.

22. A bit premature for this comment of mine
Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 12:46 AM by PATRICK
After seeing my Dad fume over Eisenhower, Kennedy BARELY beating Nixon, Humphrey losing to Nixon. etc.etc. Shit the Repugs won't even listen to John Eisenhower spell it out for them. That's because, John Eisenhower the party you thought you knew never existed for your Dad either.

This unfortunately is nothing new. People are abominably askew with regards to any value or large view or responsibility or sense of self preservation. What evens out is mediocrity and strangeness.

If Kerry is allowed to win it is still same old same old too narrow win for the good guy, but still deteriorating since history won't sustain us in madness. Sadly there has not only been no sea change but a relentless push the other way to KEEP it that way.

Might I say either the party has led us down the garden path by a significant bit or the party has again(like in 2002) been lead down the garden path we have been constantly warning about since 2000. Not to say there has been no fraud or unfair difficulties or real progress for that matter.

And our successes have been illusory if we forget the historical gifts, the gift of incumbency itself still working for the most shameful disgrace of a world *elected* leader I have ever seen.

Trying to get our foot in the door to reform the madness makes one think that itself would be a "radical" departure from a willing collaboration with Orwellian demagogues.

If you think humanity is much better at any point than this vote you might check out the blood soaked history books.

Frankly our NY results are very disappointing. Incumbency simply rules so what's to cheer? You really have to personally rub people wrong to lose. God couldn't beat inertia politically. In fact, He didn't in the Christian faith.

13. Yep, I'm pretty disgusted too.
The country gets the government it deserves. If THEY want an ignorant, warmongering, arrogant cowboy -- if they want to be totally isolated and despised in the world -- well, they asked for it.

But I did not.

What good does it do when you are up against the horrible people that live in the red states? They are never going to change and with four more years and a bigger majority in the House and Senate they are going to fuck us until we bleed. I am sad, disgusted and afraid.

17. don't apologize if your state went red,
it just proves how much you have to put up with as a sane democrat. I'm in Ohio, though, and I understand. I can't shake the feeling that I'm personally responsible for the outcome tonight if we lose!

and today, thoroughly disgusted at the young voters who voted for the *shrub because they don't know how to pull themselves away from the x-box/playstation long enough to READ something.

21. It will take another Viet Nam experience or something worse if that is
possible. It will take death and more death and destruction and absolute moral and putrid decay, moreso than it is now. I am afraid that is the only thing that will change the souls of the people of America, or give them one because it seems they have none at this moment, and it will have to come from the next generation or two.

It will not happpen in my lifetime, but it will happen in the lifetime of the young folks who failed to take up the banner today and the others who are not so young who blindly cannot see how they have surrendered their soul to fascism. I don't have a solution on how to teach them beauty and truth or soul stuff. But I think it is for certain, it does not come from religion.

The fools think it'll speed up their ascent in the RUPTURE if everything goes to hell, and maybe deep down they know Bush is the fast track to Armaggedon.

23. I am an immigrant. I have been here 15 years. I adopted this
country mainly because I thought this kind of nonsense does not go on here. The last election was a slap in my face. I cannot even begin to describe my despondency if BushCo wins this one. I'm feeling really really stupid right about now. What happenned to this country? I still believe that this election is being stolen.....but I was convinced that it would not even be close enough to steal. Are there really so many people who cannot see/refuse to see how evil and self-serving this administration is? Goddammitttttttttttt.

28. I love my state
There ARE parts of America where the shrub and his imperial ways are unpopular.

I wouldn't throw in the towel on us yet.

But in the end, Americans will have to live with whatever they pick. If they pick the shrub, and he takes that as a green light to expand the war, then they will have to live the fallout of their choice. I can't really object to the principle that people deserve to get whatever they've willingly set themselves up for. And yes, that COULD mean a draft in the coming years if tonight doesn't go our way -- even if * and his minions denied it during the campaign.
