Protest in Kiev
I was listening to a report from Kiev on the election protest today on TOTN and was struck by the similarities to our own predicament - a "quasi-authoritarian" government and fraudulent elections. Yet, the people of Kiev our out in the streets by the thousands, including their leader, demanding it be overturned. I find the reports inspiring and the contrast with America's herd-like acceptance of similar circumstances shameful. Clearly too many of us still harbor doubts about the real extent of the current administration's corruption or I think we would have been out en masse in the streets as well.

2. I was raging on Nov. 3
but instead of being encouraged to get out in the streets, I was listening to my candidate concede while I cried. If Kerry had even waited a few days before calling it quits and/or signaled support for a recount, I would have practically done anything ... as I think many others would have.

5. I think you're right
Contrast that with the statement released by the Yushchenko camp (reported by CNN here):

'Earlier, he and his supporters released a statement urging "the parliaments and nations of the world to bolster the will of the Ukrainian people, to support their aspiration to return to democracy."

The opposition will conduct "a campaign of civil disobedience" and "a nonviolent struggle for recognition of the true results of the election."'

3. What would happen if
20 million of us stepped out of our comfort zone and descended on Washington and refused to leave? What could they do to that many of us? I'm beginning to believe it's the only way to cause real change. The people must take control.

6. Meanwhile, in the U.S. ...

Republican challenges election results (in Kiev) based on exit polls

Which clears up my doubts ...

In every country of the world (except for one), exit polls are the standard against which the validity of an election is judged.

BUT in the U.S., it's the election results that test the validity of the polls.

Thank you for explaining, Senator Lugar (and Dick Morris, too). It's now all so clear to me, you shits.
