Statement from Dennis Kucinich
Got this via email:

Kucinich: This Will Go to Convention

For Immediate Release: Jan. 19, 2004

Democratic Presidential Candidate Dennis Kucinich had been showing at 3 percent in the polls in Iowa, but topped 15 percent or more in many precincts in order to win 1.2 percent of the total delegates. Had he failed to top a surprising 15 percent, Kucinich would have finished with zero delegates as expected. The polls did little better at predicting the results for the other candidates in the Iowa caucuses, and tonight's results may have raised more questions than they answered about the final outcome of the Democratic nominating process.

"This is the beginning of the campaign," said Kucinich. "We've got 49 states left to go. The media had long ago predicted the winner of the entire process and even the loser of the general election, and tonight's caucuses have the pundits scratching their collective scalps in bewilderment. I moved from ninth place to fifth and won delegates despite the 15 percent threshold.

"The longtime poll leader dropped to third, which some pundits are erroneously crediting to Dr. Dean's status as an anti-war candidate. Dr. Dean did not consistently oppose the initial stages of this war and he has said that he will keep our troops in Iraq for years.

"As I climb higher in New Hampshire and each successive state, and as the situation in Iraq continues to worsen, Democratic support for peace will be reflected in my campaign's success. I predict a brokered convention in July. By the end of this month my campaign will have raised over $10 million, including matching funds, and I'm just getting started.

"As part of my strategy in the Iowa caucuses, I worked out an arrangement with Senator Edwards that may have allowed each of us to pick up a few more delegates. Our supporters, of course, ultimately chose their own courses of action. But none were left with their only strategic choice being leaving their caucus and going home. John and I are friends and I wish him the best. But we have 49 states left to go, and we're each on our own."

8. He didn't sound at all discouraged, did he?
He was very warm and upbeat.

I think he stepped over that bar tonight. On to NH. I've mailed all my letters, and will put myself on the phone call list.

16. didn't he, though?
Just picked up his foot and took a step forward and poof Iowa was behind him and us. Time to go on and boost everything.

Watch me tomorrow. I set a filing date and get a petition count which I expect to be much higher than my current estimate of over 2,000.

Idealism? Nawww, plain guts and honest belief in what we're doing. We are NOT done.

20. No, we are not.
Conventional wisdom doesn't always triumph at the end of the day, does it?

I just have one thing to say.

I truly love Dennis Kucinich.

26. I REALLY like Dennis also...
I posted earlier about how disappointed I was with the cast of candidates but will vote for whomever just so long as we get shrub outta the white house. Still, I really like Kucinich. Edwards is a decent guy too; I'd be happy if he got the win instead of Kucinich. Anyway, what's next?
I've never followed caucuses and all this primary stuff until the real"Evil Doers" got into office. Now, politics has consumed my days. I have a question: What happens next (after this caucus)? Another caucus? Why? When do the primarys begin? Why do we have caucuses? Why does it look like Kerry won the nomination if it's not over???? This is all very confussing. I just want to VOTE for someone! LOL

pointing out in several interviews that he'll be taking an oath of office to serve his country....one way or the other.

18. Really?? Wow, what a shocker!
(sarcasm alert) He's vowed to do that from the beginning, to run for both which only tells me he can handle what's that now....10 jobs to everyone else's 1? Please! He's my President right NOW because he's earned it.

Reminds me of the two man foot race I was in, I came in second but my opponent came in next to last.

Good luck in NH, hopefully he'll get more than 1% of the vote there.

9. I'm sticking with him too
I seriously think he helped out Edwards a lot in IA. In many ways, I see tonight as a validation of his candidacy and of his supporters-- we DO have the power to affect who gets nominated in this process.

Onward...

I think he'll end up making a bigger contribution to this race than anyone probably imagines today.

14. I love this man!!
Miracles still happen. He is the "Jimmy Carter" candidate...honest, stable, intelligent, compassionate and clear choice against Bush.

I worry about Edwards having to satisfy a southern hawkish following (pentagon spending, Iraq etc.).

Kerry is just too establishment and Skull and Crossboned, plus i hate his position on the Iraq invasion and his free-trade leanings.

Clark is a Republican in Dem clothing:

Dean is self-destructing, out of control, and at times (like tonight)hysterical and un-Presidential.

Sharpton is in for the fun of it.

Lieberman should change parties.

So the only real Dem in my opinion is Kucinich. Go Dennis go!!
Please stick it out to the end.
