But I feel like I'm being too kind to this crop of dems. I think the blues are probably right.

2. My boycott of corporate media
is showing here. I've read plenty about how horrible this idea is and heard about it on AAR. I don't know how the mainstream media is handling it, and if any Dems are on the air objecting. Does anyone know?

3. I don't know.
My local weather is about all the news I watch these days. I don't watch national cable news at all.

4. I think the Dems will fight, but not because they're brave!
I don't think they'll be alone in the fight. Many Pubs will fight this too. The majority of the American People don't want this foolishness to happen, and the Sens and Reps have to worry about their own re-election, not shrubs!

5. I think the Dems. will win on this issue.
Whatever reform bills are proposed, it's unlikely that any significant change in SS can be passed in both houses. The house will probably cough a bill out of committee, and even though a majority in the house will secretly oppose it, they'll publicly back * and pass the bill. The senate will probably let their version die in committee, knowing that the Dems. plan to filibuster it and embarrass the Resident for it. Rather than letting them do that, the bill will die.

It won't be the Dem's message that will win the day. It will be an exercise of the only raw power the Dems. have left.

6. I think napi21 is right about this fight.
A number of Republicans will rise against Bush on this issue, mostly because his reforms will cost gazillions of bucks. Enough Democrats will oppose him fiercely that the final version will be greatly changed from what W wants now.

7. Old people will march on Washington with pitch forks and torches
and Congress will adhere to the will of the people, if only for one moment, and on one issue.

8. Bush is going to lose this one, Dems will support SS
Far too many Americans receive social security to support Bush's privatization scheme, that will almost certainly result in a significant reduction in benefits. He's not going to win this one. The Dems will stand up. Their minority is so small that there isn't a lot they can do by themselves, except filibuster in the senate, but a number of Republicans will oppose Bush on this too.
