Correct me if I am wrong...but Donna Brazile is an idiot
Doesn't her quote reflect the exact opposite of the actual situation regarding Dean and his attempt to be DNC Chair.

Here is her quote regarding Deans candidacy:

"Dean will have a tremendous edge with party insiders," said veteran Democratic activist Donna Brazile, a DNC member. "But this race remains very fluid. He will have to continue to work very hard to win the heart and soul of the party."

Isn't this the exact opposite of the actual situation ?

Am I reading something wrong ?

1. I take everything she says with a grain of salt.
She is much too chummy with Karl Rove for my peace of mind.

5. I can't say that I have a high opinion...
of anyone who could blow Gore's campaign. And I'd be very surprised if Dem insiders are rooting for a Dean win.

11. well some insiders do support him, such as Rep. Murtha of Pa
who happens to be pro-Iraqi war, but he understands that the Democratic party needs a fighter who will stand up for core Democratic principles and take the fight directly to Bush.

12. Not an idiot. Got beat badly. Right about Dean.
Although I find it cute the way some of DU's Dean supporters, are unable to cometo grips with the fact that Dean is a consumate--absolutely 100% through and through--insider. It's less cute that they can't seem to understand that that's sort of like a plus for someone who wants to be DNC chair.

16. All politicians are insiders...it's the perception that counts
Edited on Tue Jan-11-05 03:42 PM by SaveElmer
There is no successful politician that is not an insider..which does not mean that other insiders would be opposed to that person based on how they are perceived in the country. Fact is Dean is perceived as something of a populist outsider, which is what we need now. I have no doubt Dean is perfectly capable at playing the insider game, but it's his relationship with the party activists that will define his true support. Do we really want someone like McAuliffe again who is the consumate insider with no vision, or Dean, who has shown both the ability to play the game and a vision for how the Democratic Party can return to the majority?

It's this perception that scares other insiders!

24. Yeah, you get to be the chief fundraising
candidate recruiter for your party's governors by being "anything but a party insider." Political parties hate giving that kind of power to their faithful inside players. In fact, I hear the DGA is planning on giving the chairmanship to Ralph Nader--if he could only get elected to anything.

13. Brazile is correct. You are reading something wrong.
Your understanding of "party insiders" is apparently much more narrow than Brazile's. Even if you disagree with her view, that doesn't make her an idiot.

21. sure, the DNC
There are what 447 members?

Membership on the National Committee is composed of individuals selected by the Democratic Party organizations in each state (including the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico), the U.S. Territories (American Samoa, Guam, and the Virgin Islands), and Democrats living outside the United States and those Territories listed above (Democrats Abroad).

Each jurisdiction is represented by its Chair and the next highest ranking officer of the opposite sex. An additional 200 votes are distributed to the states and territories based on population, with each receiving a minimum of two additional seats. Each delegation must be equally divided between men and women.

Also seated on the DNC are representatives of various Democratic constituencies and elected officials. These include two U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives, two members of the College Democrats, and three representatives each from the Democratic Governors, Mayors, State Legislators, County Officials. Municipal Officials, Young Democrats, and the National Federation of Democratic Women. Fifty members are appointed by the DNC Chairmen, and approved by the DNC, and are considered "Members-at-Large."

I think among this group there are many who support Dean, and many who support somebody else, but I reckon Dean has an edge.
