Tom Ridge spoke at my school today
I forgot he was going to be there until I got to campus and saw police officers everywhere. We have had a lot of "high profile" speakers in the past few months but I've never seen so many cops. I didn't see him speak (saw him speak a few years ago and I almost fell asleep), but before he got to campus a group went around and put up posters everywhere that had Abu Ghraib prisoners on them and said "Stop Torture" etc. I hope the bastard saw them...not like it would make a difference, though...

1. He used to speak at
the school I graduated from in May all the time. In his Erie, PA hometown, that is. Anyway my school is a Catholic university run by the diocese. Once, as governor, he made it known that he was pro-choice...he was banned from speaking there. Until shortly after he became Sec. of Homeland Security, that is, and that he was welcomed back as a beloved son. Never got to see him speak though...damn...not. My dad did ride on a plane from Erie to D.C. next to him when he was a Congressman though. I guess the gist of the conversation was that the Congress hadn't done much for my dad's field of alcoholism and mental health.

Anyway, lucky you for missing him. Good for the people who put up the posters!!!

3. Clarence Thomas spoke at my campus a couple of years back
The repugs on campus made a big hoopla of having him come speak to us. There were as many outside protesting as there were people inside to listen. I got a ticket since I was a poly sci major. The man moved his lips for about 30 minutes and said absolutely nothing. He did manage to hit on the lovely young coed who introduced him though. Swear to God, she is a honors student, very accomplished and he makes a comment on how pretty she looks in that lovely outfit. He was giving her the old up and down ogle, lingering at the short skirt and boobs routine. My repub senator on the stage with him smiled like a proud papa. What is it with these guys? How on earth do they manage to rise so high in the government with no talents and no clue at all? I gave my repug professor hell afterward and he wouldn't even deny the guy's lame talk but still said he is a brilliant justice. What DO they put in the Kool Aid?
