Grass-roots Group to back Kerry in New Hampshire
The Alliance Network, a grass-roots group that advocates for African Americans and Latinos, is taking 80 people to New Hampshire Friday to support presidential hopeful U.S. Sen. John F. Kerry, D-Mass.

<snip>

Walter Dixie, the Alliance Network's coordinator, said the group is endorsing Kerry because of his support for small business and for YouthBuild USA, a national program that helps low-income people 16 to 24 get back into school and train for construction jobs.

There are 6,000 youths involved in YouthBuild programs in 180 cities nationwide. Dixie is working to start a YouthBuild program in Syracuse.

In the last few weeks, Dixie said, the Alliance Network has collected 1,000 signatures in Syracuse and Auburn to help get Kerry on the New York primary ballot. The New York primary is March 2.
