A Newly Meaningful Relationship?

By Al Kamen
Monday, February 14, 2005; Page A15

Romance is in the air today across the land. But in Washington, the buzz continues about "The Kiss." No, not Gustav Klimt's famous painting. It's the big fat one an exuberant President Bush planted on Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman's right cheek as he waded through the Capitol crowd after the State of the Union a couple of weeks ago.

The Connecticut Democrat said he didn't mind it and thought Bush was thanking him for his support of the administration's foreign policy. Or maybe it was for Lieberman's not dismissing outright Bush's Social Security proposal.

they will blame all the problems on him since he is a Democrat.

i believe he said earlier that he wont accept any(or was it just homeland security) with the administration.

i didn't click on your link since i don't go to that site so i'm not sure if there is any additional info and facts.

6. Lieberman is a vain fool.
He's invested a lot time trying to create the image of the bipartisan defence expert in the Senate. He either believes his own spin now or he was a mole all along.

25. He loves to be stroked by the Russert's of the world
nothing more intoxicating to the DC pol than being thought of as the independent maverick willing to take the "tough stands" even if it goes against party orthodoxy. Lieberman is a fool. He's drunk on his own image.

3. Just the kind of message we want to send to the Muslim world
Putting a Jewish hardliner in as the Secretary of Defense will definitely not bother them one bit. It's not like they'd think we're serious about starting a holy war or anything...

Besides, wouldn't want to spoil Bush's Man Date.

He needs to be voted out and let him go kiss scrub-shrubs ass on his own time. I wish there were a way to strip our party affiliation from the likes of him and Zell Miller.

Or maybe it was something else. There's been K Street chatter, our colleague Jeffrey H. Birnbaum tells us, that Lieberman could be on an administration list to replace Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld in the next year or so.

That would be convenient for Lieberman, whose term is up in 2006, and could give Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell (R) an opportunity to appoint a Republican to the seat for at least a few months before the election, inching the GOP closer to a filibuster-proof Senate.

Or maybe it's just love?

7. On the plus side
it would get Lieberman out of the senate before '06 and perhaps allow the state to elect a more progressive democrat.

8. This must be propaganda. Are they trying to get to Lieberman's
ego? Might not be hard to do. Lieberman might be able to hawk Geico Insurance, but he would not be as winning as the gekko.

19. I sent him an email about his vote on Condi and he sent me this
long, long, droning email...Subject: Homeland Security (not CR). The whole thing was an endless list of every little thing he had done with regard to HS. His voice is enough to make me never vote him.

Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 12:30 PM by drbtg1
think about it... if the CT Dems can get their head out of their collective asses, they could get a real Dem in that Senate seat for the next election (2006). I know Gov. Rell would most likely appoint a Republican for the interim, but only till next year.

Then again, Gov. Rell is pretty pissed Bushco took away the Sikorsky helicopter contract, defying all logic in the process. Wouldn't it be a hoot if she appointed a Dem as a matter of poetic justice? It would help her with dealing with Dem state leadership and return the favor to Bushco. Two birds, one stone.

14. not everybody in CT hates Bush
I still see plenty of Bush-Cheney 04 stickers here as well as folks in my practice that voted for him.

More importantly, we still have republican congresspeople from here. Thus the state Dems have to be real careful who they push to the Senate. If they want someone like Bill Curry again, they'll be as worthless as NHL season tickets.

can't recall. Guess I could look it up, huh.

On edit...

Well according to this IMPECCABLE source it was for Homeland Security
It is being reported on all the Connecticut news channels that Joseph Lieberman is a possible replacement for Tom Ridge at the Dept. of Homeland Security.

24. See Post #5 -- It's really from Wash Post. Drudge had it as a
news flash -- like he took the job. Then a while later changed it to "he was on a list". So you are right about the credibility.

funny part to me, did Donald know there was a list?

26. Drudge is notorious for being ridiculously vague.
Edited on Mon Feb-14-05 06:51 PM by antiwarwarrior
"(H)e was on a list" could mean anything. He could be on a list for having bought a specific sort of sock on the right day in October, for all that means.

I'm sorry -- I'm not a big fan of Drudge. :)

29. You are forgiven. I don't like him either. But, when you are bored
and sitting at work, it is a way to find out instantly what is happening. When someone told me he got money for every hit, I swore him off, but I need an easy news fix. Any ideas? Worried that the place I work at (the Government) has some software that monitors usage and democraticunderground might not sound too good in a B** administration.

27. You need to read---your post has to be totally wrong and misleading
If you go back and read carefully I believe you will find the Joe is up for Sec. of Defense in ISRAEL!! (sarcasm). That's who holy Joe has always worked for. But then, again, if he did take over as our Sec. of Defense he could probably employ the services of the Israeli equivalent to our CIA and finally get some goddamn accurate information!!! I've always said we should outsource our CIA to them!! Anyway, if Joe ever got that job it would assure that we would be the military arm of the Israeli government (not like that isn't who we are anyway).............
