Bushies SMIRK...is it me...or is he laughing at us for believing his shit?
Look at the man when he tries to "sell us" some program or policy...he explains the sell...which often sounds like a second grade teacher explaining the theory of menehunes to her kids. She don't believe it herself so she smirks as the children BELIEVE her...

So it is with the dufus...he just cannot contain hiomself when he sells us some shit and those gullible suckers suck it all in. He is incredulous that anyone would buy the story that Rove thought of...like a bro selling poor qually shit for big bucks...he smiling as the sucka buys the bags...

but the success is still on a roll and he cannot stop...

Now Bush is on a mission, clean up the act...try to appear and do things Presidenshul...be better than the gipper....even...now he will smirk more than ever.....

worse...now Rice is talked about as Presidential timber...they are beating us with the race card....??

1. I agree...

.... if you read psychologists' papers about "tells" from someone who is telling a lie, smirking is high on the list.

When he spouts that nonsense, he know it is bs. He's having a good semi-hidden belly laugh that it is so damn easy to fool the American public.

But it won't last forever.

2. He's become a parody of himself...
He KNOWS we know he's full of shit...

But it doesn't matter with him because he believes his core constituency will always support him: ie, the fundies and freepers. George W. Bush could be caught screwing a sheep while stuffing a ballot box and his core supporters will only wonder if the sheep was female...

But for the rest of us, he has the US Congress, the Supreme Court, and the Corporate Media covering his ass. He doesn't need to be intelligent or statesman-like, nor does he have to explain the policies and plans of his handlers. Your right, he cannot explain "his plans" for Social Security; he sounds like a babbling idiot when he tries. But he's always sounded like a babbling idiot. It's just that when the Corporate Media filters his statements, he becomes more acceptable to Americans who believe ignorance is bliss. And it is to these Americans that Rice will be marketed as "presidential material." Whether or not they succeed will be determined by how hard Bush handlers work.

The Bush presidency has become what the TV show "Dragnet" became during its final season. Jack Webb walked around "overplaying" the character of "Joe Friday" as a parody of himself: he was "Joe Friday." Bush is doing the same thing today; he is walking around overplaying the character of "George W. Bush."

23. Oh, I'm sorry!
I have to look this up actually, but they met at that conservation summit in Brazil - there was some sort of dinner going on, and they got seated near each other, and Theresa sat down and made a comment in French, and John responded with that phrase...they got to talking...

And she stole the man I LOVE.

:-)

27. No shit! And MOST definitely a "message" to someone!
I think Kerry knew it too! The press asked him if he would like to do the same and he refused to. Instead he let his daughter go on TV and smile a bit.

The investigation probably started at that VERY moment. I'm sure there were some pretty heated discussions in the Kerry/Edwards camp going on.

5. Wouldn't you smirk too?
It doesn't matter what he says or does, he will be praised for it. In his position it would be tempting to pull some really bizarre shit just to see the media and citizens rack their brains trying to put a positive spin on it. I've said it before: Bush could kill Laura and the public would cheer him for having "traditional values".

8. Heard his Chimperial Majesty this AM on NPR
He was talking about the Big Europe Trip, and he could not have sounded more bored if he had ingested three Talwin and a six of Bud. Flat, monotonous, detached.

He just doesn't give a single solitary Goddamn about much of anything, least of all visiting a bunch of countries where pretty much everybody hates his guts.

9. What exactly are you referring to?
What could be easier to comprehend than the following?

"Because the -- all which is on the table begins to address the big cost drivers. For example, how benefits are calculate, for example, is on the table; whether or not benefits rise based upon wage increases or price increases. There's a series of parts of the formula that are being considered. And when you couple that, those different cost drivers, affecting those -- changing those with personal accounts, the idea is to get what has been promised more likely to be -- or closer delivered to what has been promised.

"Does that make any sense to you? It's kind of muddled. Look, there's a series of things that cause the -- like, for example, benefits are calculated based upon the increase of wages, as opposed to the increase of prices. Some have suggested that we calculate -- the benefits will rise based upon inflation, as opposed to wage increases. There is a reform that would help solve the red if that were put into effect. In other words, how fast benefits grow, how fast the promised benefits grow, if those -- if that growth is affected, it will help on the red.

"Okay, better? I'll keep working on it."

12. one of my co-workers remarked on this, back in 2000 ...
Edited on Sun Feb-20-05 12:38 AM by Lisa
This was at a time when the mainstream press were gushing about his "engaging smile" and "sparkling eyes". She said, "it always looks as if he's laughing to himself, and not in a nice way -- it's as if he's gloating about having pulled a con and nobody's called him on it."

The more I learn about **, the more credible this seems to me.

p.s. and what people said earlier in this thread, about him being a caricature. Before he ran for governor, he said that he was "a media creation". I think it's one of the few truths he's ever uttered -- and it was a pretty devastating prediction. His manufactured persona has taken on a life of its own. In a way this is more dangerous than an actor getting carried away and believing he really is Napoleon, or Superman, or a serial killer -- actors have an extensive training period so they're used to leaving the character behind after the play/movie is completed. Bush is so suggestible that he believes his own propaganda (e.g. about being "selected by God").

34. I think, by now the smirk is wearing HIM ...
I was watching a documentary about a Hollywood makeup artist who commented that he had to be careful not to get carried away so that the makeup dominated the actor ... in a way, I think this has happened with *'s manufactured persona.

22. He's laughing that he's gotten away with so much and that people

still support him. It's like half the people in this country have been hypnotized into thinking he's beyond criticism, and/or that any criticism is simply lies. If we could find out what tv program they all watched back in 1999 (maybe earlier), maybe we'd have our answer as to how the Bushistas pulled this off.

It scares me that there are people who can't see that they've been lied to -- or don't care about it.
