Mainstream press picks up pace on Gannon (Rawstory)

Mainstream press picks up pace on Gannon; New Yorker gets into the game

Heat from press rises on White House over Gannon

By John Byrne | RAW STORY Editor

A broad array of mainstream publications and television networks are aggressively pursuing various angles of the burgeoning scandal surrounding discredited White House reporter Jeff Gannon, RAW STORY has learned.

Washington sources tell RAW STORY that calls are flying around the District as much of the mainstream press seeks to catch up with online reporting–including some from such prestigious magazines as The New Yorker.

The wire services have also begun digging, sources say, which could place the Gannon scandal in hundreds of smaller newspapers across America.

Some suggest that the mainstream media–which initially left blogs and online outlets like this site to flesh out the story–are now seeking to reestablish their grasp and perhaps break new elements of it themselves.

2. I think you hit the nail on the head!
I can only hope that Faux and Drudge continue to ignore it and the rest of the MSM go after it. That ought to help their credibility! (sarcasm)
Or will it prove that the WH controls their messages?

3. I decided this morning that Gannon was a Karl Rove prank. I
think he bet someone "I can put a gay prostitute with no journalism background into the White House press corps and get away with it." This was probably just before he made the "I can plant some fake documents and get CBS to believe they are real" bet, but after the "I can get * to start a war against anyone I tell him to" bet. But I think he didn't make any of these bets until after his "I bet we can get those voting machines to give us as many votes as we want" bet panned out.

I mean, think about it, they could have gotten any number of right-wing freaks with "legitimate" Doctor of Divinity degrees from full-time "educational" institutions who would have been "honored and thrilled" to be a plant at the White House and pitch softballs a press conferences. The only reasons to pick a gay whore were perversity and arrogance. Rove doesn't just want to shit ordinary turds on the American people, he wants to dump bad Mexican food diarrhea and morning after an all-night drunk drizzling squirts on us to prove his power.

4. I think you make a good point!
Its the "I can do anything I want to and nobody'll question me, betcha a dolla" attitude. Gannon was put out there to prove these guys can do and get away with anything they want to.

6. Its called hubris. Why shouldn't they think they can get away with
planting their male prostitute in the WH press corps? They have violated the resolution passed by Congress in authorizing the "military action" in Iraq. They are waging an illegal war based upon lies, stacked upon lies.

This one was a no big deal prank, the only problem is - sex sells and they made an issue of those nasty "gays".

7. I don't believe it was a prank. I think it was a deliberate maneuver.
The question is, why Gannon? Or maybe they had no clue that his "Democrats divorced from reality" remark would get a laser beam of blogger investigation focused on Jiffy-Lube Jeff. It sure got my attention, because the remark was so incredibly over the top.

Follow the money, and subpoena the phone records. And I hope they investigate his personal finances. If he's been making money "under the table," then he's got IRS problems, too, as in federal tax evasion.

9. Who is going to prosecute him? The federal government?
BushCo owns the federal goverment. Gannon/Guckert's problem now will be finding Johns (do they call them that if they are gay, or do they call them Leslie or Wolf?) who are willing to be seen with a guy who is now so recognizable.

15. I believe its deliberate, too.
Someone with a better connection than my dial-up needs to start posting a "connect the dots" diagram," so that everyone can hook their little piece on this.

I think the fact that the husband of a direct assistant to Rove is an officer in GOPUSA is very telling. Rove passes info to Dina, Dina to her husband as they do husband wife "how was your day" chat, husband to Elerbe and/or Gannon. Gannon turns it loose on the world.

I believe there was a deliberate effort to build the WHPC's and other media outlets acceptance of Gucker/Gannon as a useful leak, even if every person working in the press corp knew he was a partisan phony. In a Whitehouse and administration where no one goes on record, and they always want the opportunity to "correct" the story before it is released, Gannon must have been a welcome, if obviously manipulated voice at the water fountain (bubbler if you're from Wisconsin).

Team A needs to work on where Gannon's info came from.

Team B needs to work on Gannon's other contacts and activist activities.

Team C needs to follow up on the tax deliquency and try to figure out the missing years of Guckert's life.

17. That's interesting
I was just about to post a message saying I had decided that Gannon was in there because of a very high level White House official's relationship with him, that he got his inside info (Plame, Iraq invasion)during pillow talk and he couldn't resist blabbing, to make himself look like a "big guy." But if your hypothesis is right, the whole thing is just political plotting, making Bush look good in press conferences, etc and the plotters didn't know about Gannon's gay life.

8. I think Rove is just like that!
Do you remember the name of the Iraqi military operation that commenced immediately after the election? It was "Phantom Fury". What better way to distract from the shock of having our democracy stolen from us than to immediately begin a military operation after our phantom elections. The "Phantom Fury" name fits perfectly with Rove's arrogant, superior attitude.

11. Remember that the original name of "Operation Iraqi Freedom"
was "Operation Iraqi Liberation" until someone noticed that the acronym was too close to the truth.

Rove is a nasty nerd who never got over high school and Bush and Cheney are dry drunks who never spent a minute in treatment.

16. "Cut?" I've been aroung a long time and never heard that one.
Willie, Johnson, Peter, Dick and many more but never "cut." Is it a mod term, or a mom term? As far as I know, there is no data on the penis sizes of Doctors of Divinity, maybe they have plaster casters like rock groups used to and one could find out that way.
