OK, who wants to help out with JEFFGANNON.ORG?

As some of you may know, I was shocked to find that jeffgannon.org was an available domain name yesterday... So I registered it. I'm not sure what we should do with it yet -- whether to put up a blog about all things Gannon, or a parody site, or a little of both, or something else... But chances are that the domain name will give whatever we put up there instant visibility.

So, here's what I'm thinking -- if you're interested, post in this thread. I'll look through your posting history and if I'm satisfied you're not a freeper-creeper (for everybody's good, we don't want a troll), I'll IM you the password to a chat room. We'll set up an AOL or a Yahoo chatroom or whatever, and get together there and iron out the details of how to do this.

So, post WHAT you're interested in doing (web design, writing, illustration), WHAT you think should go on the site, and TIME(s) (this weekend) when you have an hour or so to meet online and chat about this.

All the links to all of the breaking stories, all of the pictures (redact the naughty bits, accessible with a click, perhaps!), all of the jokes (the jokes are only a matter of time) and lots of snark. If you can't have fun, why bother? If it IS fun, as well as informative, then you can be sure you'll have a ton of visitors!

8. Don't think I'm tech savvy enough to be involved-

When I saw jeffgannon.org was available (just an hour or so ago) I was seriously thinking about buying it.

I think the site should absolutely NOT be parody (though I do love a good parody).

But more should be a simple, clear Primer on How To Generate Propaganda.
How To use The Press for Your Own Ends.

Don't be politically overt, simply instruct. Maybe (maybe) use Gannon/Guckert as an example of how to do it.

Most importantly, keep it simple, keep it clear, make it obvious that we are not being told the truth most of the time. People looking for Gannon's blog will instead get - not an anti-gannon screed, but a gentle, informative, this is how you are being lied to.

Then if, god forbid (though I have no good feelings about the guy) he "commits suicide", the site, remaining up, becomes a cautionary tale to those who promote propaganda, either as disseminators or apologists.

You have a potentially big opportunity before you, please think BIG.

my two cents:
a bit of humor/irony on the top page (the pic you have is great) and have a humor section (because any website on this guy just screams for a humor section)

but on the serious side:
i also think it would be good to document all this propaganda that has been put out from the white house, articles dispelling the myth of the "liberal media", other republican stooges such as armstrong williams, maggie whats-her-name that only got paid $40,000, and that other guy who only made $10,000 from the white house. also the paid for, illegal medicare commercial that the white house put out as "news";

jeff gannon is a poster boy for all this propaganda from the white house and the republicans--a symbol of corruption--(damn! i'm glad i'm not him!)

We're already familiar with word that Gannon may try to cash in with his situation by filing lawsuits, and registering a domain that includes his name, albeit a pseudonym, may consitute cybersquatting (since the subject is Guckert) on top of any content you may post there which could be a target for copyright (ie. images) or defamation. The guy has no job, plenty of time on his hands, and just as he appears to be a self-hating gay man, he no doubt will have access to self-hating right-wing lawyers with a side agenda of bringing down left leaning websites and their owners.

I think a parody site would be appropriate, with maybe a section of it being a blog of news events surrounding the story. I would be interested in helping with the writing, web design (to an extent), and image work (if I can get my photoshop running on this computer).

This weekend I will probably be free whenever, but I am in the UK (I am studying abroad), so I am five hours ahead of you all on the east coast, though in the evening your time is fine for me as I am a night owl.
