I'm not sure exactly, but it was very short, if anyone knows exactly that'd be great. so I could just see the admin pull out PA II on say Dec 26, or maybe PA III by then. We know PA II is in the works, the question is when will it be foisted upon us, and even more frightening, why? what color alert stage will they create? nervewracking.

14. Yeah, remember the anthrax? Haven't caught that person yet either...
along with bin Laden. Didn't get to have the JAG cast or Ahnold catch the guy and put a bullet in his brain and then make some snarky crowd-pleaser comment like "anthrax this, baby!." Why not? Oh, yeah... this is REAL LIFE, not a testosterone-driven revenge fantasy, with Presidents wearing flight-suits and saying "Bring 'Em On" and stuff like that.

4. and they've been working on this for what, well over a year
so think how massive PA II will be (though I'm sure they were working on PA I long before 9-11) and what are they waiting for to spring it on us?

5. Actually PA II has already been...
... implemented, in part. Sections of the so-called Domestic Security Enhancement Act (leaked to the Center for Public Integrity in Jan., `04) were slipped into the intelligence reform act passed last fall.

But, as for the time the original Patriot Act was introduced, this timeline shows the whole thing:

http://www.cdt.org/security/usapatriot/history.shtml

Introduction of the administration-prepared anti-terrorism legislation appeared Sep. 19th, eight days after 9/11. That bill was collated with other bills and introduced as the Patriot Act on Oct. 2nd.

8. It was easy to put together
as they'd tried to implement most of the provisions before. It was just their wish list of pro-prosecutorial "retorms" goosed up and slightly edited for terrorism.

9. One wonders....
Was somebody working on putting all those provisions together before 9/11? So they could take advantage of the opportunity?

11. Being that large in size,
there is no doubt it was already on the 'to do' list.

16. It's called cut-and-paste
Yeah, you need some editorial glue to put it all together, but both sides have loads of staff who are very good at that.

12. 6 Weeks
After 9-11, Bush signed patriot act 1, the day after capturing Saddam, Bush signed patriot act 2 (on a Saturday). This past Jan. 26, Bush signed a "renewal" of the patriot acts, aka "patriot act 3". REPEAL these unpatriotic "patriot acts". Defend the Constitution, DO NOT give up your Rights willingly, or you will never get them back.

13. PA1 was ready before 9-11,
which means 9-11 wasn't a complete surprise to them. Thing is, before 9-11 (which they claim they could not have seen coming) there was no reason for draconian civil rights limiting measures such as the Patriot Act - yet they had it all prepared.
PA2 has already passed as far as i know.

15. The Patriot Act
was co-written by a DEMOCRAT Bob Graham. When the Democrats tried to get this enacted during Clinton's administration the republicans thought it was too intrusive and a violation of civil rights, but my how things changed.
