(I put this in the GDP forum because this is as political as it can get)

1. And to think,
they'd rather allow them to go unloved and institutionized than to have a gay parent. I guess that's their perogative, but I firmly disagree with their logic, or lack thereof.

3. Wait until you find out
just how many missing kids are reported to the FBI
PER WEEK.

And many many missing kids are only reported to the local cops
who never file with the FBI
because they think it is a simple runaway with no felony involved.

4. So the next question is:
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 01:40 PM by kcass1954
How many of those children can DCF account for at this exact moment? I only ask because I seem to remember Jebbie campaigning on a promise to "overhaul" DCF and make them "accountable" for their shortcomings, and I'm not sure this has been accomplished.

Jebbie needs to mind his own business and stay the hell out of the Schiavo case. Let the families duke it out in court. Oops, I forgot - they already have, but Jebbie keeps butting in. I've heard talk that he'll try to get another bill passed to bypass the courts and keep her alive. Let's hope the court spanks him again if he does.

This is just more "compassionate conservatism", which means "I'm gonna smile while I f*** you!"

Damn, now I've gotten myself riled up over this, so I've got to go write a letter to the little twit!

5. I don't like the way the issues are combined-FC and Terri Schiavo
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 02:32 PM by noonwitch
They are very different issues, even if the same government agency has some involvement.

Most states have more children in foster care than the average person realizes. Some of those kids have some serious behavior problems, due to the abuse and neglect they went through prior to CPS/FC intervention. Some states don't do a very good job supporting and training foster parents.

In Michigan, we have a system to pay more to foster parents who are handling kids with serious medical or behavioral needs. The rate is determined by how much extra time and effort is required to meet the child's needs. It also requires the foster parents to make sure the kid gets to school, counseling, whatever the special need is.

The Terri Schiavo case is a whole separate issue. I think it's wrong to pull her feeding tube out and starve her to death. At least not without a signed living will. It's not the same as taking someone off a respirator.
