Billionaires for the left
The below quote is from freerepublic.com, an ignorant post that backfires on their ideology. Of course the real money makers support the left, their wealth is proof they know something about free markets and how best to profit from it, as opposed to the bottom feeding tax cut grabbers.

How can smart people be so dumb?

I consider Warren Buffet, Bill Gates, and George Soros as financial geniuses. Yet all three are in Democrat supporters. Why on earth would any businessman support the Dems, let alone these very intellegent men?

4. Gates voted for Bush twice
He voted for Clinton in 1996. I don't know about 1992.

5. How do you know he voted for Bush?
Just because he donated money to Bush doesn't mean he voted for him...

6. He definitely voted for Bush the first time.
Gore went to Microsoft and said that he was going to make sure the company was split up. Before that, Gates was a solid Democratic supporter.

8. Possibly for Bush the first time, but then again, he voted for Clinton and
he knew under Clinton that the Reno Justice Dept was moving full steam ahead in their investigation and suit against Microsoft. Bill Neukom (former General Counsel) leading those suits is a longtime Democrat and I know that Billg is too....I however actually knowing both of them would suggest that Billg did not vote for Bush ever and if he did in 2000, he did not in 2004. Billg may have given money to the Bush Administration but his heart is as a Democrat...his mother Mary taught him well, as did Bill Neukom....

10. I agree.
I think he probably voted for Kerry in 2004 (though of course no one really knows but him :)).

I know a lot of Microsoft people who, although solid Democrats, didn't vote for Gore because they felt personally attacked by his speech when he visited.

15. I've known him since my early 20's...in every conversation, every
discussion on social issues, political issues he has always expressed viewpoints that are progressive in nature and philosophy. He might be a "capitalist" but his views on government and its role and also societies role are progressive and democratic all the way. He also liked Clinton, just didn't like the Justice Dept. coming after him, but he also realized that it was more of his competition (ie. Sun Microsystems, Digital Research, Novell, Netscape etc.) that were pushing the issue and some Attorney Generals and Politicians and Attorneys wanting to make names for themselves and take down mighty Microsoft. He never saw it as Democrats and the Clinton Administration having a personal vendetta against him. Even his and Melinda's philosophy on how they raise their kids and also what they inherit is very much in line with those same philosophies. His mother Mary was actively involved in Charity and the work that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has been doing is amazing.

Yeah, his is defintely a dem in heart, mind, body and soul and obviously you know that too! :hi:

7. Bill Gates dad is a liberal but Gates himself is somewhat of an asshole
although he does tend to support some liberal things such as public education and just government funding for programs overall and even higher taxes.

but it's because of the whole justice department going after his company during Clinton administration that he started supporting Republicans to try to get them to leave him alone.

14. He is also the one of the largest philanthropists in the world
.... which doesn't exactly go hand in hand with being "somewhat of an asshole." I'd probably reserve that designation for people who make assumptions about folks they don't know much about (and most republicans). ;)
