Osama in the News Today >
I'm wondering what these two non-stories portend? It's a pretty tortured effort to put Osama back in the headlines. The first story is the cover of the NY Post today. The second I heard discussed on NPR. Neither is actually news.

OSAMA'S N.Y. BEAUTY

http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/42585.htm

March 15, 2005 -- She walks down the street on the Upper East Side, thin and stylish, another well-heeled beauty chatting away on her cellphone.

Except that she isn't — she's Osama bin Laden's niece.

Wafah Binladin left the city in the months before her uncle's ghastly attack, but she's back now, living at a friend's posh pad off Park Avenue, pursuing her career as a pop star and living it up on the social scene at swanky Soho House.

'We nearly hunted down Osama'

LONDON: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf said on Tuesday his forces believed they had nearly hunted down Osama bin Laden about 10 months ago but the trail had since gone cold.

"Through interrogation of those who have been captured, the al Qaeda members who were apprehended here, and through technical means there was a time when the dragnet had closed," Musharraf told the BBC in an interview.

4.  "She's this extremely wealthy girl who
is used to getting what she wants and having people jump at her every word," the friend said.

Holy shit! She's a Saudi version of Paris Hilton.

6. Interesting that she
"left New York in the months before September 11th." The article sort of makes it sound non-coincidental.

9. Well, in Boston today. Osama WAS "Breaking News"
I almost spewed coffee.....

WCVB, Channel 5 (ABC) was broadcasting their "Eye Opener" morning show from 5am-7am. Around 6am, they had a "BREAKING NEWS" alert along with a headline that read "Osama Nearly Caught." I had the TV on mute at the time but quickly turned on the volume. Gee whiz, turns out the BREAKING NEWS was TEN MONTHS OLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Needless to say, I wrote them an email commenting on their sensationalism.

12. Hmm. that sounds suspicious
Kind of like when AP kept distributing "test" stories about Bush's historic win -- in October!
