Democrat?
I still pride myself in being insanely independent but I keep getting pidgeon-holed into the Democratic party. Don't get me wrong, it's much better than the fruitcakes on the right, but isn't it time to quit this crap and perhaps be a party of smaller parties? As Bill Maher has said, the human political spectrum does not fit neatly into two ideologies. I think it would be refreshing...the wingnuts are sheep and I'd like a party that is diverse but maintains a few core principles...mainly John Rawls' 'veil of ignorance' equality.

Just a thought for a beautiful Sunday afternoon...isn't it great to just simply breathe? I like life:)

Regards to the Pope...don't believe but he was a great man by almost any standard (qualification 'almost' simply for logic reasons, hehe)

2. Democrat.
Its the only party that looks out for me.

No one party can fulfill each and every person's philosophical leanings. That's impossible.

As for Bill Maher, I think he leans Liberterian (don't flame me if I'm wrong).

3. I'd love it if we had multiple parties
like the British system where the parliment is made up of representatives of all political parties and the seats are apportioned based on the percentage of votes each parties get. Each party is guaranteed at least SOME representation that way. If we had that sort of system here, there would be some Libertarians, some Greens, some Constitutional Party, some Reform Party, some Socialist Party, etc. representatives, it wouldn't be all Democrats and Republicans and 1 Independent. I think it would be a much more fair and workable system.

4. Great idea. However, there's one big problem with that.
The U.S. political system is not BUILT for more than two parties. We can't "rank" our votes, like "Well, I'd like nader first, but Kerry is second"... we just vote. There's literally NO ROOM for other parties to play. We would have to completely re-engineer government. And although I think many people would like it as a more representative government, we have too many "old-fashioned" people who say "if it was good enough for the forefathers, its' good enough for me."

Canada's government is much more representative.
