What happened to Lugar? I'm so disappointed!
I had always heard that Lugar was a very moderate Republican. An intelligent man of integrity who doesn't play dirty politics. What happened?

6. That's what I wonder. He seems to have gone from questioning the * admin
to being their lap dog. Maybe I haven't paid enough attention - but it seems to me he has moved far to the right in just the last year or two. I think they might have dirt on him - or he doesn't want an unusual envelope to come in the mail.

Reminds me of Dick Dastardly's dog, Muttly.

8. Suuuuuuuuck
The sound you just heard is the Bush Credibility-vac sucking out all credibility and integrity from formerly believable Republican politicians. Colin Powell? SUUUCK. (WMD speech to UN) John McCain? SUUUUUUUCK. (Big hug) Bob Dole? SUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. (Kerry never bled.)

I was sad to see Lugar get it. But it was bound to happen. There's not much republican credibility out there any more. SUUUUUUUUUCK.

12. Lugar is up for re-election next year...and...
...he would rather sell his country down the river than grow a pair and stand up to the Neocons...

Bend over, Dick.

17. There are none so blind as those who will nazi
When it comes down to it, Republicans are conservatives, and as such are only really concerned with themselves. They will betray core principles to maintain power, and personal enrichment is at the heart of their being. How else can one explain Log Cabin Republicans; they're signing their own death warrant just so they won't be taxed. How else can one explain "true" conservatives who abhor foreign entanglements and thirst for a balanced budget?

Conservatism is selfishness, and as the world gets more and more crowded, there are more and more inferiors; the only way to counteract that is to exert more control, even if it means tolerating the betrayal of secondary values like balanced budgets, civil liberties and fairness.

Lugar has always been a functionary. He's not the worst of the bunch, but if that statement isn't a case of being damned by faint praise, I'll have to go back and distill some stronger vitriol.
