Rant: dems must worry and vote X so we do better next election?
IE - if we vote against this new bush bill it will make us look bad so it is ok for our dem leaders to vote for something they don't like so that we look good and get back in to power.

Here are my problems with that:
1. Does that mean that whatever bill it was is what the majority of americans want?

2. If the majority does want it, then how can we ever hope to get back into power by voting for it and then bitching about it later?

If we really believe that the majority of people don't want such things (and maybe they would if they knew more about them) then why are we not out fighting like rabid wolverines against things and voting against them?

And we HAVE power. A lot of it really. How many senators/reps do we have? Don't they have power to introduce bills, vote against bad ones, spend time and money working to educate people on them, etc? What do we go to work everyday to pay them for?

They have great jobs, best benefits, health care, and so on. We pay for it all for them - they best damn do the job and quit trying to take the easy way out.

Leaders get out and lead the fight - and people will respect that. We may all decide to vote for dems no matter what they do simply in hopes of 'getting back in power' - but are we willing to give it all up now on a hope that people will magically vote dem next time? If our leaders truly believe the last two elections were stolen, then they should be even MORE impowered to get out and fight like hell. Not just complaining about a bill, but voting against it and rallying the troops.

So what do they believe? That next election there will be no cheating? Do they believe that they have to give the people what they want and that what they want is what bush is offering so they vote with him? Do they think that by taking no stand and going along with things that they are actually improving the lives of americans?

Yeah - we will vote dem next election, but it reminds me of a televangelist that gets caught hanging out with a hooker and misusing his power and the money people gave him. The people just shrug it off, give some more, and keep believing.

4. I get that, but there is a but :)
What do you DO about it? If those same senators/reps are up for re-election, do you vote for them? How do we 'chastise' these folks and learn em right?

5. Uh. no....

You're panicking.

Stop panicking.

Democrats have had two kinds of bad habits when there's a setback to deal with. The more conservative half of the Party says: compromise more and scream louder about what's wrong with Republicans. The more liberal half of the Party says: we need more purity and we have to be more righteous and it's time to rewrite all the plans.

How about not falling into either one. We don't need more compromise, more noise, more purity, or better plans. At this point.

How about just letting Republicans selfdestruct? It works for me.
