I wrote a letter to Kay Bailey Hutchison
concerning the ANWR drilling vote (quite some time ago). Did I think it would make a difference? Not really.

So anyway, I got a reply letter back from her today. It starts out very nice, thanking me for contacting her. She says she welcomes my thoughts and comments.

Then it takes a turn for the worse. She lies to me and tells me oil exploration and drilling is now done with the newest and safest technology in order to protect the integrity and tranquility of America's wilderness. She lies to me and tells me the development of ANWR is essential to energy independence and national security.

So I finished reading the letter and then did the only thing I could think to do. I took out by big red sharpie and wrote across the letter, in big letters, "LIAR". I then put it in an envelope and sent it back.

3. absolutely -
we should all do it. I live in Texas - so I'm pretty much screwed. I'll keep writing, and they'll keep getting their letters back with LIAR screaming out in big red letters. It's about all I can do. :hi:

I wish we could replace her in the senate with a dem or a green, but I suppose that won't happen until the idiots around us stop drinking the koolaid.

5. You'll get nowhere

My Senators are George Allen and John Warner. I sent out emails to them both and got pretty much the same response as what you got. I personalized mine to Warner a bit more because he voted to protect the Roadless Rule and I wanted to profoundly thank him for that, but his response was just more of the same cliché’ bullshit we’ve heard 1000 times, talking points that are basically born with the American Petroleum Institute, right-wing think tanks, wise-use zealots, and freaks and lunatics like Don Young and Tom DeLay.

I don’t even email these people anymore. You can work with some Republican congressmen, but my congressman (Forbes) is a shithead and a religious tool. I may roll something to him juxtaposing his religious quackery with his anti-religious votes concerning economics and the environment.

but I have to do it, and sending her letters back gives me satisfaction. I won't stop speaking up just because of who they are.

8. Me too. I keep sending and hoping Kay will pay attention.
As far as Rethugs go she's as moderate as one can expect which isn't much.

9. You can't call her a liar!
Delusional and raving, however, are a different matter.

Actually, I like your approach. I've often wondered what to do with the response letters from her office, which don't ever seem to have anything to do with anything I wrote her about. I'm inspired now; I think I will scribble a big "B.S." on them from now on and return them.
