Democrats in Congress are going to wimp out
I can see it coming:

The Republicans are going to ram their RW judicial nominees through the Senate after they destroy the filibuster. For all the noise some Republican senators are making about how maybe they won't vote with their Frist on this, in the end they will cave to the pressure just like Reed and Voinovich did with Bolton.

And then it will be up to Democrats to make good on their threat to bring the Senate to a crawl by refusing unanimous consent to all but essential legislation. And there's the rub -- the definition of essential will be stretched and compromised so much it will become a meaningless protest. And before long it will be back to business as usual with a pack of neutered congressional Democrats.

I hope I'm wrong about this. But I'm afraid it just might happen.

1. If that indeed happens..
.... then I'm not a Democrat any more.

3. The playing field is not level when you are dealing with the Rethugs, plus
Frist is running hard to win the loyalty of the religious right base for his expected '08 bid for the Rethug nomination. He figures he can't lose with them--either way, it's a win-win.

They will reward him just for bringing the "nuclear" option down on the Senate.

8. Well, this is how you can prevent some of that from happening...

GUYS: NOW is the time. CALL A DEM THIS MORNING! You've GOT to know that MP George Galloway’s fiery statement before the Normie Coleman committee is the talk of the Hill. Sphincter muscles are uncomfortably tight all over the republi-CON world this morning when they all had to return to their offices and try to figure out what to do about this. NOW IS OUR TIME TO STRIKE. Now that Galloway has smashed the gates open like a battering ram, it's time for OUR guys to get some balls and close the deal.

Here's what I already called in to Dianne Feinstein and Harry Reid:

(in so many words, that is)

Galloway just taught school. Galloway has just shown you how it's done - how to fight these bullies. He spoke the truth and he smashed it straight into their faces. THIS IS HOW IT'S DONE, AND NOW IS WHEN IT SHOULD BE DONE.

Galloway just showed you how. He just gave you the tools.

Now, here's ANOTHER one (to the staffer who takes your call) - please could you take this down - it's VERY simple, it's TEN WORDS.

The Democrats are probably gonna get a lot of heat from critics who say - well they did it, too; they went along; they voted for the war; OKAY. HERE'S WHAT YOU DO - HERE'S WHAT YOU SAY - if you can please pass this on:

(say it slowly so if they actually are taking notes, they can get this - words capitalized for verbal emphasis)

"Because I TRUSTED my president. And he LIED to me."

URGE WHOMEVER YOU SPEAK WITH - to share this. Spread it around. It's vaccine against those who'd say "oh, they're all alike. They all do it. They all caved. They enabled this. They voted for it... blah blah blah (they're doing it now in the House with the tom delay business - oh they all did it, they're all the same, blah-blah-blah). NIP THAT CRAP IN THE BUD.

And do it NOW. Galloway gave us the opening. We need to JUMP on it.
Strike while the iron is hot.

If you don't know the contact info, you can find it here:

http://www.senate.gov/index.htm

OR - BETTER YET - ANOTHER TOLL FREE NUMBER TO THE CAPITOL HILL SWITCHBOARD: 1 (877) 762-8762. (Funny enough, those numbers on the touchtone pad spell out SOB-U-SOB!)

Call your Senator if he/she's a Dem. If not, call SOMEBODY ELSE'S Democratic Senator, or Harry Reid. Call SOMEBODY. Even just one. Just do it. They've now been shown how. They just need to apply the lesson. Please! We CAN take our country back! We were JUST given a MOST magnificent weapon!

17. Then go around 'em. Call somebody else's Dem senator(s) and
offer them calcium supplements for their spines. If they're not Barbara Boxer or British MP George Galloway, they'll probably need it.

4. The republicans DON'T CARE what people think of them!
Filibuster schmilibuster.

NYAH NYAH NYAH...who give a flying rat's ass what is good for America, what is good for even their own party? This is all about packing the Supreme Court. Once they've done away with the filibuster, the end of our basic rights are GONE, and the repubs know it. SCOTUS appointments are for life, and no matter what happens after this, even if the filibuster rule is re-instated a year from now, they'll own the court, and even if it is found the GOP did something unseemly to get them installed, it won't matter. Even if Frist or the GOP as a whole is rebuked, even if they lose seats, even if monkeys fly out my butt, the GOP will STILL own the courts, and the appointments will stand.

They know this. I hope we are not too stupid to realize what is going on, what is at stake. This is a death match for them. They want only one outcome, regardless of how they get it...they want a right-wing court which will be able to rubber stamp all its future deconstruction of the United States Constitution.

Nothing less will do.

6. Probably true, because our legislators don't fear us
the way they fear the radical clerics in their own districts.

I think it's seriously time to start considering progressive candidates in the primaries against those who don't hold the line.

I'm tired of having my vote taken for granted.

12. Well, I certainly hope I am wrong
But I kept hearing about last-minute attempts to cut a deal over the filibuster war. Deal-cutting is what congressional Democrats seem to do best. They have little experience at knife fighting -- and that's what this is, a knife fight.

18. So be it. If this is a knife fight, then our guys need to bring AK47s.
And in this day and age of rigging the game, I'd call that fair-and-square.

will come along and accuse you of expecting too much "purity" from the Dems.

14. I think you are right
Each agenda item of Bu$h's will pass, with different Democrats jumping ship each time.

I don't see anything on SS passing though, thats too hot for even the republicans to handle. Maybe some democrat will offer a 'compromise', thus clearing the way for the blame to be passed to the Democratic party if SS is gutted.

15. Exactly. They switch roles so as to not take too much heat.
Biden, Hillary, etc...and though he is ok now, look for Obama to be a CAFTA sell out, IMO.

Its a game of shufle or hot potato. Then, they take up an issue to placate the people from outright revolt.

Look at Galloway. One man NUKED the ENTIRE congress and administration. Where are our leaders?

Fucking pathetic.
