Whoa--Think of McCain's Political Ambitions in this Filibuster Issue
McCain is trying to broker a deal in this filibuster issue--correct? McCain will be going up against Frist in '08 for the repub presidential nomination (both have declared their intentions to the party back during convention time). Frist, of course, is trying to take over the mantle with the right-wing, wacko, Christian brigade (thus his pandering and his pushing these lunatic fringe justices to please the wackos). McCain, it is pointed out by political analysts, is not liked by the Christian Right. They think he is too liberal. McCain must emerge as a champion of the moderate republicans and all in the middle in order not to be knocked out in the opening rounds of the primaries. Soooo, in essence, you are seeing McCain fighting Frist in all this just as you are seeing the Dems fighting Frist. I believe there is a "play within the play" going on and a battle to see if the moderates can be cut out of the repub party and survive as an opposition (and that is exactly why the Bush regime has hit Maine so hard in base closings---they are trying to cut the legs off the moderates like Snowe and Collins and bring them to their knees). It will be interesting to see if McCain can consolidate power. Stay tuned.

2. Right, but are there enough moderates left in the Republican
party to make a difference? I honestly don't think so. The Christian Right owns that party now and has for some time.
