That Home-Run everyone was waiting on....
Clark just knocked it out of the park on MTP. He stayed on issue, every issue and was not distracted once during the whole interview.

5. He's the only one that can bring people into the party???
600,000 people beg to differ. I would venture to say LOTS of them are new to the party or new to politics.

4. All Clark supporters and others interested should watch MTP when it is on
in your area. Clark was outstanding. I loved how he has quickly mastered the art of turning a question around to make a point. He also stayed positive.

7. Well, there we go...
MTP just couldn't resist getting a dig in on Clark at 1/2 point in the broadcast.

They tried to slam Clark for associating with Michael Moore, Madonna, and they said they were aware that Bush had a big absentee problem in the Guard in Alabama, but that had already been taken care of. Desertion is punishable by Death!!!!

The dig also from Kerry, Clark will find out that there are going to be allot of LT.s waiting on him in S.C.

They clearly want John Kerry over Wes Clark...

9. They're doing to Clark now what they did to Kerry for a year.
Marginalize him and declare his candidacy dead.

Kerry proved all of them wrong in Iowa, and now they're over correcting. Step back and see it for what it is.

They also want to stir more heat up and want to use Clark's LKL comments to do it.

28. Why was it ok for Clark to say but wrong for Kerry to answer?
Edited on Sun Jan-25-04 12:40 PM by emulatorloo
And when was the 60 minutes piece taped and have you seen it? Before clarks apology? Does Kerry make a big deal out of ir? Or what?

Hasn't aired yet. So we dont know.

(Personally I think that think the pulling rank thing is a silly media puff up - PS I Love CLARK he was great on MTP)

10. As an additional side note: The Talking Heads on MTP all but
laid a wreath on the Dean campaign. They clearly don't want anything associated with a Populist uprising against King George. A New England liberal, who will be closely associated with Ted Kennedy and Michael Dukakis sits just fine with them.

19. I'm surprised
that Clark hasn't been culled out of the race before now. I agree with the lady being interviewed (I forget which morning show had her) that he wouldn't even be in the race if we weren't in the middle of a war.

He has no domestic policy experience, he's been a Dem. for about five minutes, he has little personality and lifeless eyes (really ... he's a handsome dude, but his nervous smile and those glassy eyes ... there's no "there there"), he doesn't answer questions properly, those who've worked with him say everything has to be HIS way or the highway (not a compromiser, which a president must be), his positions on issues have shifted ... any one of these things wouldn't be a problem ... but put them all together and you have a guy who can't beat Bush. I wasn't impressed with him on Meet the Press.

25. Mmmm sort of. Clark doesn't want to kill the deserter thing
and he doesn't want to make the claim either, it would be seen as being a bit out there. I don't know if it has legs but Brokaw saying that there ARE some questions about W's time in the Alabama guard caught me be surprise. The anchor of NBC news actually put that out for public consumption.

Clark did okay for Clark. He really isn't finishing the kill that well (rough around the edges) but he does best when his answers are short. No it wasn't a home run but it was a quality at bat.

17. Gen. Clark's campaign will stand or fall on its own merits
None of the bullshit that the press serves out sticks because he always comes across as a decent man with great concern for the well-being of the country. Notwithstanding the politics, which may or may not define him against the other Democrats in the race, we are lucky to have such a caring and thoughtful man on our side.

I like how you characterized it as a home run, because that's exactly what I called it earlier when I was watching it.

The media analysis after was amusing.

21. Its interesting
i personally want him to smack someone - but he always holds back. He looked very presidential - and VERY electible.

There was one moment that made me grin - when Russert challenged Clark on the charge of playing politics with intelligence assets (something we've ALL been complaining about for months) - Clark used an example from last week!!! He didnt have to go way into the past, talk about plame, etc - he went after Cheney (one of the least liked people in politics) and hammered the crap out of him.

Clark was good. I didnt like his Moore answer as much as the rest of it - and it shows that the campaign doesn't have a Carville on staff, or they'd have a better zinger prepared.

He did not commit himself and personally stayed above the controversy, but at the same time, did not kill the question as an issue. Very impressed with his response.
