Is the Media pushing for "recess vote on Bolton?
Is it just me...or has the media taken the side of Bolton about his appointment.they keep saying the blocked vote "MAY"..COULD" result in bush appointing him in the July 4th recess.......and that it would last until Jan 2007.........it seems the media is trying to hold a blackmail voice on the airwaves........and that it won't do the Democrats any good to "block" this vote!

2. Isnt this a misuse of the recess appointment?
If they want to re-define 'recess' to mean whenever Congress is not in session, then the appointment would run out as soon as Congress was back in session -ie. back from the July 4 vacation.

7. no it is traditional
The backdoor recess appointment has been used by both parties to get appointments through a reluctant senate. It does cut the legs off of the appointee though, as he or she is by definition a short termer, a lame duck, and probably some sort of disgrace. It is also an admission of defeat by the administration: they do not have enough clout to get this nomination through, nor do they have enough support to use this to 'go nuk-u-lar'. and finally and most importantly it appears that whatever is in the Bolton papers requested by the Democrats is so freaking damaging that the administration considers taking the embarrassing recess appointment route to be the least damaging way forward.

This is a victory for our side.

3. Bush is just a recess appointment
by the SCOTUS until we get a real president, and a legislature with balls and a conscience.

4. I'm sorry, but I just have to do this...
First of all, it's "are the Media?" "Media" is a plural noun for "medium."

Second, this "media" that are "pushing" for a recess vote on Bolton - you imply that they are somehow working collectively. So, I guess they are coordinating their efforts, right? So, my question is, what room in what NYC hotel room are they meeting in? If so, who is going? Is it a small band of 5 network news presidents, or do all the show producers attend as well? Also, who gets all of these presidents and producers from competing networks to collectively agree that they "must push for a recess vote on Bolton?" I know they have plenty of time on their hands to plot and plan such an endeavor...

... or could it actually be that:

1) You view the media through your own filter, or the experiences you bring to the table, and are reading into what you are watching?, or

2) Perhaps SOME news producers think a fresh angle on the aging Bolton story would be interesting news to all of us?

After all, aren't the evil media corporate-controlled? Bought and paid for, money-driven organizations always seeking our attentions?

Which leads me to my next question: in what NYC hotel room do the media and the corporate folks...

8. The text to read is Manufacturing Consent
Noam Chomsky. A backroom meeting is not required. It is coordination of mutual interests.

However more specifically the RNC and its PR firms push out talking points to the various MSM outlets on a daily basis, and like clockwork the talking heads are all using the same phrases, right out of the RNC talking points. The headlines are all pushing the RNC angle, the editorials are all lined up as per the memo. It ain't freaking rocket science and it ain't even a big secret, it is right out in the open. What rock have you been hiding under for the last 14 years?

5. FAUX NEWS asked the Condiliar why NOT a recess appointment:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,159824,00.html

WALLACE: We only have a couple minutes left and so I'd like to do a lightning round with you, if I could, Secretary Rice: quick questions, quick answers.

It appears that Senate Democrats are going to keep holding up the nomination of John Bolton to be U.N. ambassador. You say that it's very important to get him on the job so that you can continue the reform movement at the U.N.

Why not make a recess appointment to get him there to the U.N. as the ambassador?

RICE: Well, we just want to see what's going to -- we'll see what happens this week.

LoL, notice how Wallace has to guide the Condiliar not to 9/11 Commission Filibuster the question with her longwinded answers.

Yes, the Corporate Media is clearing a path for a recess appointment.
