Dean Brings in over $1 million Each Week since Becoming Chairman
Washington, DC - The Democratic National Committee (DNC)'s fundraising for 2005 is off to a strong start. During the first half of the year (January 1 - June 30, 2005), the DNC received $28.5 million in contributions, a record amount of money for an off-year election cycle. Since becoming chairman in mid-February, Gov. Howard Dean has brought the passion of the grassroots with him to the DNC by raising over $1 million a week from approximately 600,000 donations - a record amount of money for an off-year election cycle.
"$28.5 million from 600,000 donations is a strong, solid beginning," said Dean. "This proves that Americans want to get Democrats elected in every state and territory, in every city, in every precinct, at every level of government. People are eager to get our country back on track and they know they can trust Democrats to do just that."
Dean has also kept his pledge to invest in state parties: *The DNC has already committed over $2 million to 16 state parties. *All 50 states and territories will receive an investment by the end of the year. *Dean has appeared at state party fundraisers that have raised more than $1 million for ten state parties.
Online fundraising is also growing at a record rate:
*During this fundraising period, the DNC implemented the "Democracy Bond" program, a monthly giving initiative. *To date, over 15,000 people have signed up for Democracy Bonds and more people continue to sign up every day. *In the first 24 hours of offering this program, 2-3 people signed up every minute. *Online donations are five times stronger than the last off-year election cycle.
The DNC has approximately $9 million cash on hand.
